Happy Vietnam: Spreading the spirit of borderless human rights and global happiness

The choice of the international name “Happy Vietnam” and the open, diverse and global organization show that Vietnam is conveying a universal human rights message to the international community.

Not only limited to the national scope, the award invites the Vietnamese community abroad and international friends, reporters, photographers, experts, students, tourists, etc. to share meaningful moments and stories about all aspects of Vietnam's political , economic, cultural and social life.

This diverse participation is a vivid demonstration of the spirit of "human rights without borders" and reflects a clear reality that human rights in Vietnam are not an abstract concept but the right to live healthily, to study, to be protected from violence, to have access to healthcare ... Happy Vietnam touches the most humane aspect of human rights - the right to happiness.

Speaking at the award launching ceremony, Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Hai Binh emphasized: Among 100 million Vietnamese people, each person has their own happiness. This contest is an opportunity for everyone to share happy moments, thereby spreading positive energy in the community.

More than just a media competition, Happy Vietnam is part of the effort to build a human-centered social environment, where each citizen is the subject of spreading humanistic values. The award uses the language of communication to convey policies, reflect reality and create a space for interaction between the State and the people on human rights. Therefore, Happy Vietnam is identified as an annual award chaired by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in coordination with ministries, branches and localities to organize periodically.

From a communication initiative, the award is gradually taking the form of a national communication strategy on human rights associated with the desire for happiness. The systematic organization, the expanded scope of implementation, especially the initiative of localities show that Happy Vietnam has the potential to develop into an important component in the overall human rights policy of Vietnam.

A typical example is Nghe An, which launched “Nghe An Happiness – Happy Nghe An 2025” as a provincial-level contest in April. This is not simply a mass media activity but a forum that reflects political and social life in a realistic, emotional and pervasive way. The active participation of localities shows that awareness of human rights in Vietnam has shifted from a legal concept to being closely linked to real life.

The 21st century is witnessing a shift in the concept of human rights. In addition to the right to life and freedom, humanity is more than ever promoting the right to live in a safe environment, free from discrimination, violence, comprehensive development and most importantly, happiness.

In that trend, Vietnam chooses to tell the story of human rights through happiness. Through each photo, video or shared story, human rights appear vivid, authentic and transparent.

Photographers' lenses, reporter angles, or quick moments captured by phones... all testify to one reality: Human rights in Vietnam is a vivid, concrete, transparent story seen from the closest, simplest perspective.

Vietnam is increasingly asserting its position in the international community, especially in human rights forums at the United Nations, ASEAN, ASEM, etc. In that process, Happy Vietnam is a confident, proactive and in-depth step. The "Happy Vietnam - Happy Vietnam 2025" award is therefore an upgrade of human rights communication activities to be sustainable, professional and systematic. This is a demonstration of Vietnam's confidence in being open, transparent and proactive in telling its human rights story to the world.

While many countries are still debating human rights through the lens of each country, Vietnam chooses its own approach: Putting people at the center, talking about human rights in the language of life, from happiness, sharing through authentic, vivid stories recorded by the people. The videos and photos not only reflect the achievements of innovation and development but also spread everyday moments imbued with humanistic values.

Vietnam is telling its human rights story through its own lens and letting the world see it. This is also Vietnam’s way of contributing to the world’s common efforts in building a global community that respects the dignity and rights of every human being. Small stories from a locality, an individual to widespread resonance… Vietnam is affirming its position as a country of action, not only promoting human rights but also actively cultivating a global community of happiness.
