Mr. Ha Ngoc Nhu - Head of the Coc water team inspects the water supply project.
Vo Mieu is a mountainous commune of Thanh Son district, currently with more than 3,200 households living with over 13,000 people, of which ethnic minorities account for 47.8%, mainly Muong ethnic group. Implementing the new rural construction program, in 2024, the commune invested in building 9 new works and repairing 1 self-flowing water work to serve the domestic water needs of 1,200 households in 7 areas: Coc, Tien Phong, Trai, Do Lau, Lien Thanh, Ria 1, Ria 2 with a total cost of 1.2 billion VND. In which, the State supported the construction of tanks and water pipes from the source to the tank, and the people contributed to making water pipes from the tank to their homes.
In May, it is the rainy season, all the tanks are often full of water, convenient for people to use. Ms. Bui Thi Kim Thinh in Coc area said: “In the past, my family had to bring water from the stream to the house by connecting bamboo and bamboo pipes, the water when it reached the house was unstable, and it was not hygienic. Now that the State has invested in a clean water project, people in the village do not have to worry about going far to bring water from the mountain stream like before. My family invested in installing additional water pipes from the tank to the house, serving daily needs. I often remind my children and grandchildren to protect the source of domestic water, and the water pipe system, clean the tank area and clear the drainage ditches to ensure cleanliness to benefit from the long-term domestic water supply project”.
Water pipes from the mountain stream to the tank provide clean water for households.
Before repairing and installing domestic water supply works, commune and area officials held meetings to discuss and get people's opinions on water sources, tank locations and measures to overcome steep terrain and deep ravines. People supervised the investment, construction and repair of domestic water supply works. In addition, the areas were divided into groups of households to manage tanks including: pipes, tanks and water sources. People proactively repaired damaged items such as: broken pipes, loose connection points, broken valves. Each household always raised their sense of responsibility, did not let domestic water flow wastefully, isolated and protected water sources, and required people not to graze livestock in the upstream area. At the same time, the areas and hamlets propagated and reminded people to look after and preserve the works, absolutely not to have acts of vandalism or damage to the works, especially the pipeline system. Thanks to that, the domestic water supply works have been and are bringing high efficiency, people are excited, agree to support and accept the management and maintenance of the works. Thereby contributing to improving the quality of life and health of the people.
Mr. Ha Ngoc Nhu - Head of the Coc water group said: "Each family is allowed to use 30m3 of water. If any family exceeds the regulation of 5m3 , they will be charged 5,000 VND/ m3 of water. If they exceed 10m3 of water, they will be charged 7,000 VND. This money is used to maintain and repair the project. At the same time, this is also a measure for people to raise their awareness of saving water, not letting water flow all day and night, causing waste of resources...".
The exploitation and effective promotion of the domestic water supply project at Vo Mieu has helped people improve their quality of life, contributing to the implementation of environmental criteria in new rural construction.
