When workers are "masters of the lot"
Every 15th of the month, Mrs. Lan and her husband pay their workers. With nearly 40 hectares of rubber trees contracted to 8 couples to manage from care to harvest, this method helps the workers feel like they are truly part of the owners of the rubber trees they are contracted to.
Le Van Cuong and his wife are a typical example. This is the third year they have contracted to take care of and harvest 3,800 rubber trees. Although the weather in the first half of October was unfavorable with heavy rain, reducing the latex harvest time to only 9 days, Cuong and his wife still received nearly 15 million VND in wages.
Mr. Cuong confided: “Since receiving the contract, I really feel like I am the owner of the garden, proactive in all stages from care, flexible time for latex harvesting and latex export right in the garden to the purchasing agent. In particular, the income of my husband and I is quite stable, in months with favorable weather, we both receive more than 40 million VND in salary, very excited. In addition, with the way the garden is assigned by my uncle and aunt, we also have more free time to manage other jobs, creating a source of income outside of rubber.”

Not only Mr. Cuong, this "ownership" mindset has spread and is the common thought of those who have worked with Mrs. Lan for a long time, such as the couple Phan Thi Thanh, Mai Thi Thuy... With more than 7 years of taking care of and harvesting latex from 5,000 rubber trees of Mrs. Lan, Ms. Thuy confided: "We are extremely grateful to the uncle and aunt for creating stable jobs with a very good source of income for many families. In particular, the policy of paying salaries 2 times/month helps us proactively source money to promptly cover living expenses and take care of our children's education without having to worry too much."
Among the 8 couples participating in the contract, we pay special attention to the case of Mr. Ho Van Hiep and his wife, a Van Kieu ethnic. Although they only contracted over 1,000 rubber trees, the stable income from this job has really revived their previously difficult life. Currently, the 8 couples who contracted at Ms. Lan's rubber garden all have stable jobs, ensuring their lives. The income from the contract salary of each couple is from 15-20 million VND per month.
Dare to think, dare to do and outstanding economic efficiency
Returning to the story of bringing "white gold" to the barren land since 2005 of Mrs. Lan and Mr. Hai, we can see that the mindset of daring to think, daring to do and daring to take risks has helped them achieve the success they have today. Mr. Hai recalls: "In 2005, when we decided to buy back more than 38 hectares of rubber land, my wife and I were lucky to have financial resources invested by our in-laws. But in reality, the garden at that time was like a wasteland, the trees were of poor quality, had to be destroyed and completely replanted.
In particular, there are plots of land that are still densely covered with bomb craters, forcing us to hire specialized teams to clear mines and level the land thoroughly before replanting. With many years of technical experience accumulated from working at the rubber company, I have applied science and technology, researched and deployed the planting of high-yield tree varieties. To prevent cattle from roaming freely and destroying the garden, I came up with the idea of digging deep ditches around the plots and planting 2 hectares of Melaleuca trees to create a solid protective belt.
Based on her experience as a farmer working with rubber trees, Ms. Lan realized that hiring daily-wage workers was difficult and ineffective. Therefore, in 2020, she discussed with her husband to switch to a contract model of sharing profits (50/50) with workers, for mutual benefit. In just 8 years, from 2005 to 2013, more than 38 hectares of barren land were covered with green rubber trees. Of which, 25 hectares were planted with traditional bare Stum varieties and the remaining 15 hectares were planted by sowing seeds directly in the hole and grafting after one year. This method of self-sowing and grafting helps her family reduce seed costs to only a quarter compared to buying seedlings from outside. With the effective contract model and current rubber latex prices, the average monthly income of Ms. Lan's family ranges from 70-100 million VND.
Promote responsibility to the community
Evaluating Ms. Lan's model, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Con Tien Commune, affirmed: "Ms. Lan's family's rubber production model is a typical example of production and business with very high economic efficiency in the locality. Ms. Lan not only succeeded in enriching her own family, but also contributed significantly to creating stable jobs and good income for many other farmer members."

Not only successful in business, Ms. Lan's family also shows a high sense of responsibility to the community. She actively participates in local organizations such as the Women's Union, Farmers' Association and the Elderly Association, and always fully participates in movements launched by the village and commune.
In particular, from 2012 to now, Ms. Lan has regularly contributed to the "Pot of Love Porridge" activity at Gio Linh Regional Medical Center, with a contribution of 300,000 VND per month and participated in distributing porridge 2 days/month. In addition, her family also regularly supports difficult circumstances during the Lunar New Year, showing compassion and deep concern for social security activities.
With her achievements, Ms. Lan was awarded many certificates of merit by the People's Committee of the commune for her outstanding achievements in the association's work and the farmers' movement, and was honored to be selected as a typical good farmer to attend the 1st Patriotic Emulation Congress of Quang Tri province in 2025.
