Van Quyet retires from the Vietnamese national team.
"Van Quyet shared his retirement plans with me. He didn't play the whole match today, but I know the fans respect him a lot. He played well, and I want to thank him for his contributions to the Vietnamese national team ," said coach Kim Sang-sik.
The head coach of the Vietnamese national team added: "I spoke with Van Quyet before the match. He talked about his plan to retire from playing. I called Van Quyet up to the national team this time because the team is short of strikers. I also called up Vi Hao to test him alongside Tien Linh. I believe he will be a good player for the Vietnamese national team in the future."
Reasons why Hoang Duc was substituted early.
Regarding the early substitution of Hoang Duc, the South Korean coach said: " Hoang Duc was not 100% fit and in good form. That's why he was substituted early. He needs to improve to play better in the future."
Coach Kim Sang-sik commented on the match: " Right at the start of the first half, we brought on new players. I'm quite satisfied with the first half. Although we conceded a goal in the second half, the players still played hard until the very last minute. I'm pleased with that."
The head coach of the Vietnamese national team explained the tactical changes in the match: "In the second half, I wanted to give more opportunities to the substitute players. They performed quite well. We are actually still considering many things for the AFF Cup. The players played hard in the second half. We will make adjustments accordingly, whether we deploy a 3-defender or a 4-defender formation."
*India's head coach, Manuel Roca, responds first.
Coach Roca added: "The Vietnamese team has some interesting talents. Bui Vi Hao once scored two goals against Nam Dinh . We know how dangerous he is. Van Quyet also played very well when he came on in the second half."
The Vietnamese players are faster than us. I've told the players very carefully that either they control the ball, or they'll beat us. Overall, Vietnam has a quality squad with many good players. They are a team with great potential for future competition.
- Did you instruct the players to increase the pace of the game when you realized Vietnam's weaknesses?
In the first half, Vietnam completely dominated the game. When I went into the locker room, I told the players that they had the quality and physical attributes to score. Our strength was demonstrated in the equalizer. But towards the end of the match, the Vietnamese team accelerated and created more opportunities. Vietnam brought on some quality players from the bench, while we used more younger players. This is a result I am pleased with.
- What is your assessment of this match? What are your thoughts on the Vietnamese team after 90 minutes at Thien Truong Stadium?
The Vietnamese team played better than us in the first half, but the Indian team played better in the second half. We had a few dangerous opportunities. I think 1-1 is a fair score given the events on the field.
Head coach Manuel Roca.
*Post-match press conference: Vietnam vs India
The only friendly match for the Vietnamese national team during the FIFA Days in October 2024 was against India. Facing a weaker opponent, the Vietnamese team easily controlled the ball and enjoyed a good game.
However, the Vietnamese team only managed a 1-1 draw against India. In the 11th minute, Que Ngoc Hai missed a penalty after Bui Vi Hao was fouled inside the penalty area. This incident significantly affected the morale of the Vietnamese team's captain and central defender.
The Vietnamese team drew 1-1 against India.
Meanwhile, Vietnam's attacks mainly came from the right wing, where To Van Vu and Nguyen Van Toan were positioned. The 1996-born striker constantly troubled the opposing defense with his skillful dribbling. Just a few minutes into the first half, Van Toan had two very dangerous shots and one notable pass. Hoang Duc also had reason to regret his missed opportunities. Van Toan provided the assist for a close-range shot, but the ball went wide.
Towards the end of the first half, the player born in 1993 regained his form. Que Ngoc Hai passed to Vi Hao, who unleashed a powerful shot; the ball bounced off the Indian goalkeeper's hand, and Hoang Duc pounced on the rebound to open the scoring. However, in the second half, Farukh easily bypassed Que Ngoc Hai and finished skillfully over Nguyen Filip's head to score the winning goal for India.
For the remainder of the match, the Vietnamese defense continued to play without focus. In attack, it wasn't until Van Quyet and Quang Hai came on that the home team showed some improvement. Unfortunately, the Vietnamese team lacked the sharpness to score.
