In this match, the Vietnamese women's team scored 4 goals in the first half thanks to Vu Thi Hoa, Bich Thuy, Hai Yen and Hai Linh. In the second half, substitute player Thai Thi Thao scored a hat-trick to seal a 7-0 victory.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, coach Mai Duc Chung said: “The opening match of the SEA Games, whether men’s or women’s football, is very difficult. Today, the Vietnamese women’s team defeated Malaysia - a team that is improving and had good results against Bangladesh. I always remind the players to stay focused and fortunately we were able to win.”

Coach Mai Duc Chung: Malaysia is not a weak team
According to coach Mai Duc Chung, the Vietnamese women's team has met important requirements in terms of force: "We have no injuries, no yellow cards, thereby ensuring the best force for the next match. That is extremely necessary."
Coach Mai Duc Chung also shared his calculations in using personnel: “I arranged the team with a mix of young and experienced players, not using one group entirely. My requirement today was to score many goals and the team did well.”
Answering the question about whether he would aim to score more goals when the score was already 7-0, coach Mai Duc Chung said: “In football, every coach wants to score as many goals as possible, especially when there are still many competitors in the group. I always hope the team can score more goals if possible.”

In addition, coach Mai Duc Chung expressed his emotion at the fans' cheering: "Today there was only a small group of Vietnamese fans in the stands but they cheered very enthusiastically. I was touched when I heard many fans calling my name. Thank you to the fans who supported the Vietnamese women's team as well as me personally."
The 7-0 victory over Malaysia put the Vietnamese women's team temporarily at the top of Group B, ahead of Myanmar in terms of goal difference, as the Myanmar women's team beat the Philippines 2-1 in the previous match.
In the second match taking place on December 8, the Vietnamese girls will compete with the Philippines.
