In preparation for the Vietnam National Team's March 2024 training session, head coach Philippe Troussier went directly to Japan to monitor and check Nguyen Cong Phuong's performance.
On the morning of February 25, Cong Phuong played the full 90 minutes in the match between Yokohama FC reserve team and Renofa Yamaguchi.
Coach Philippe Troussier met, updated information and encouraged Cong Phuong to continue to strive, first of all to have the opportunity to play more in J-League 2, thereby continuing to develop himself to contribute to the national team.
It is expected that the Vietnamese team will gather again from March 12 to prepare for two matches against Indonesia in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The first leg at Gelora Bung Karo Stadium will be at 8:30 p.m. on March 21 and the second leg at My Dinh National Stadium will be at 7 p.m. on March 26.
The goal of the Vietnam national team in these two matches is to get from 4 to 6 points to consolidate their position to win a ticket to the third qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia.
