U.23 Vietnam coach 'wants to forget the match', dissatisfied with a player

Before the match, the Vietnam U23 team was considered the stronger side compared to their Philippines U23 opponents. In fact, Coach Hoang Anh Tuan's team started proactively, controlled the ball well, and played quite skillfully. Vietnam U23 had a smooth start, taking the lead in the 18th minute with a beautiful combination and finish from striker Nguyen Huu Tuan.

However, for the remaining 70 minutes of the match, the Vietnam U23 team played quite ineffectively and were unable to score any more goals despite controlling the game. Vietnam U23 ultimately won 1-0 against the Philippines U23 and secured a place in the semi-finals as group C winners. But coach Hoang Anh Tuan was still not satisfied with his team. "I want to forget this match and focus on the semi-finals. In this game, Vietnam U23 had five 18-year-old players and they weren't well organized. However, I still wanted to give them a chance. In the second half, there were clashes between players, and I'm not happy about that," the coach from Khanh Hoa expressed.

Coach Hoang Anh Tuan was not satisfied with the Vietnam U23 team's performance against the Philippines.

Responding to a reporter's question about the performance of some individuals, Coach Hoang Anh Tuan shared: "Regarding Long Vu, I am satisfied. He is only 17 years old, and his performance is already good. Vu is very young. I have told the players that I will give them opportunities, and whoever takes advantage of them will have a future. As for goalkeeper Van Chuan, he is Hanoi 's third-choice goalkeeper, and because he doesn't play much, he may make mistakes now. I think Chuan will gradually improve and perform well in the upcoming matches."

In particular, coach Hoang Anh Tuan drew attention to Nguyen Van Truong. After coming onto the field, the midfielder failed to keep his cool in the face of malicious tackles from opposing players. "Regarding Nguyen Van Truong, I told the referee that I wanted to substitute him immediately. I was not happy, because football is about playing football, not fighting," Coach Tuan emphasized.

"The U23 Malaysia team is strong. We will analyze the opponent, but the most important thing is how my players perform. The U23 Vietnam team needs to give more than 100% effort to win the semi-final and advance to the final," coach Hoang Anh Tuan commented on Vietnam's U23 team's semi-final opponent.

On the other hand, coach Christopher Pedimonte stated: "The positive thing is that we tried our best until the very last minute. This lesson will help the players develop in the future. In this tournament, the Philippines U23 team brought many young players, including six U19 players. We want them to gain experience and learn more."

Regarding their opponent, the Vietnam U23 team, the head coach of the Philippines U23 team commented: "Vietnam made many changes compared to the first match. We tried to stop Vietnam, but moments of lack of concentration led to goals conceded, and we couldn't find an equalizer. The Vietnam U23 team is strong and has a great chance to advance to the final of the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship."

In the other match played at the same time, the U.23 Malaysia team also won against U.23 Timor Leste with a score of 3-1 and advanced to the semi-finals as the winner of Group B.  

Coach Hoang Anh Tuan's team only has one day to rest, recover, and prepare for the match against U.23 Malaysia. This match will take place at 4 PM on August 24th.
