In recent years, the Veterans Association at all levels in Lao Cai province has continuously promoted the movement "Veterans join hands to build new rural areas" with many practical models. Thereby, contributing to changing the face of the countryside, together with the locality to complete the criteria for building new rural areas, aiming to build advanced new rural areas and model new rural areas.
Looking at the spacious roads connecting villages and hamlets, making it convenient for people to travel, the officers and members of the Veterans Association are all happy because their work has brought practical benefits to the community.
A pioneer in the movement of moving fences and donating land to build new rural areas is veteran Nguyen Van Bac in Tan Dong village, Tran Yen commune. His family donated 800 square meters of land, plus the additional cost of buying materials and labor to rebuild the gate and fence, but he was still happy.
“In the new rural construction program, we are the direct beneficiaries, so not only the war veterans but also the villagers support it. The completed road is clear, clean and beautiful. More importantly, the quality of life of our people has also been improved” - War veteran Nguyen Van Bac shared.
Identifying the New Rural Construction Program as one of the key and continuous tasks associated with the Association's activities, the Provincial Veterans Association seriously disseminates the directives of the Party Committees and authorities at all levels to cadres and members; strengthens propaganda and mobilizes members to promote the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in the economic , cultural and social fields, maintaining security and order, contributing to the completion of the New Rural Construction criteria. Exemplary in donating land, contributing labor, dismantling and moving architectural objects and trees to expand roads, cultural houses..., contributing to changing the face of many rural areas. They are also the core force participating in ensuring security, order and traffic safety at the grassroots level.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Thai - Chairman of the Provincial Association of War Veterans said: "In the movement "Joining hands to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas", many members have donated 145,589 m2 of land for local welfare projects; participated in 47,898 working days to repair and rebuild 329 km of rural roads, dredged and rebuilt 101 km of canals, repaired and rebuilt 9 bridges, 12 classrooms, and community cultural houses; coordinated with the Women's Union to consume nearly 100 agricultural products for members and farmers; participated in donating and giving gifts to policy beneficiaries, supporting natural disasters, supporting funds of over 2.5 billion VND; coordinated with the Provincial Association of War Veterans Entrepreneurs to give gifts to children of war veteran members and farmers who are poor students overcoming difficulties worth over 486.5 million VND.
In addition to joining hands to build infrastructure, the Provincial Veterans Association also mobilized cadres, members and businesses in the area to actively respond to the emulation movement "The whole country joins hands for the poor. No one is left behind".

Up to now, the Provincial Veterans Association still has 1,892 poor veteran households, accounting for 3.14% (down 1.72% compared to 2022); the number of near-poor households is 1,591 (accounting for 2.55%); the number of households with a good and rich standard of living is 33,689, reaching 53.9% (up 4.08% compared to 2022).
In the coming time, the War Veterans Association at all levels in the province will continue to be pioneers and exemplary in all fields; strengthen propaganda and mobilize war veteran members to enhance their roles and responsibilities in implementing emulation movements and campaigns launched by localities. Timely commend and reward members with creative approaches in the process of building new rural areas...
