The Vietnam Association of Elderly People receives the First Class Labor Medal.

On June 6th, in Hanoi, a ceremony was held to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly (May 10, 1995 - May 10, 2025) and the 84th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Elderly in Vietnam (June 6, 1941 - June 6, 2025).

The celebration was held live online, connecting participants in all 63 provinces and cities.

General Secretary To Lam; and members of the Politburo : President Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man sent congratulatory flower arrangements.

Attending the ceremony were former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh; former Politburo member and former President Truong Tan Sang; former Politburo members and former Chairmen of the National Assembly : Nguyen Sinh Hung and Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; former Standing Member of the Secretariat Phan Dien; Politburo member, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party, and Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien; Central Committee members: Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan; leaders and former leaders of the Party and State; leaders of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly from various periods, along with nearly 2,000 officials and members.

Attending the event at the Hanoi city location were Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha, Head of the Hanoi City Committee for Elderly Affairs, along with officials and members.

In his commemorative speech, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, Nguyen Thanh Binh, reviewed the process of building and developing the Association, and the contributions of the elderly and the Vietnam Association of the Elderly.

Since its establishment, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly has held six National Congresses. According to data from Project 06/CP, as of March 7, 2023, there were nearly 17 million elderly people nationwide. Currently, about 9 million are directly involved in labor, production, and business; 1.3 million are directly involved in activities within the grassroots political system; nearly 750,000 are involved in Party, government, Vietnam Fatherland Front, and other mass organizations; and over 300,000 are involved in mediation groups and ensuring security and order in villages and hamlets.

According to Comrade Nguyen Thanh Binh, under any circumstances, the elderly must remain absolutely loyal to the Party and the national interest, continue to uphold the heroic spirit of "Dien Hong," and be determined to successfully accomplish tasks; exemplify adherence to the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws; actively participate in implementing the "four pillars" according to the four resolutions of the Politburo; promote the "Elderly - Shining Example" movement, proving themselves worthy as a political force and an important resource contributing to national development; coordinate and effectively implement the National Strategy for the Elderly approved by the Government and the tasks assigned by the Prime Minister; participate in promoting digital transformation, green transformation, emission reduction, entrepreneurship, job creation, building new rural areas, and civilized urban areas…

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Do Van Chien, expressed his joy and conveyed to the elderly nationwide the greetings and best wishes for good health from General Secretary To Lam and other Party and State leaders; wishing the elderly throughout the country continued good health and happiness.

Affirming that the Party, State, family, and society always pay special attention to and care for the elderly, Comrade Do Van Chien emphasized: “The fine cultural tradition of the Vietnamese nation has always cherished and honored the elderly. Our elders are a valuable asset to society, to each lineage, and to each family. Their wisdom, experience, and dedication are always a solid spiritual support for society, families, and descendants. They are always exemplary, participating in major movements and campaigns launched by the Party and State, contributing to building a more prosperous and beautiful homeland.”

On behalf of the Party, State, and Vietnam Fatherland Front leaders, Comrade Do Van Chien acknowledged, welcomed, and warmly congratulated the commendable and proud achievements that the Association of the Elderly and elderly people throughout the country have achieved in the past; at the same time, he requested that Party committees, governments, the Fatherland Front, mass organizations, and the Association of the Elderly at all levels, from the central to the grassroots, continue to thoroughly understand the consistent viewpoint of the Party and State, identifying the elderly as an important socio-political force in the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland; caring for and promoting the role of the elderly is the responsibility of the Party, State, society, and family.

“In the coming period, the Association of Elderly People needs to proactively reorganize and streamline its structure to operate efficiently and effectively according to the two-tiered local government model, be an active member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, closely follow the grassroots and residential areas; strongly innovate the content and methods of operation, understand the thoughts and aspirations of members; propagate and encourage children and grandchildren to agree with, support, and voluntarily implement all the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws,” Comrade Do Van Chien emphasized.

Furthermore, the Associations of the Elderly at all levels proactively develop practical, feasible solutions that are appropriate to the reality, successfully implementing the "Strategy for the Elderly to 2035, Vision 2045" and the Project "Elderly people participating in digital transformation, green transformation, entrepreneurship and job creation". The Associations at all levels proactively coordinate with relevant agencies to summarize the implementation of Directive 59-CT/TƯ of the Central Party Secretariat on caring for the elderly; research and proactively propose amendments and additions to some contents of the Law on the Elderly, creating a legal framework and proposing new policies for the activities of the Associations at all levels, aiming to better protect, care for, and utilize the important resource of the elderly.

Affirming that the Party, the State, and the entire society always cherish and appreciate the immense contributions of generations of elderly people to the cause of national liberation, building and protecting the Fatherland, Comrade Do Van Chien expressed his deep belief and great expectation that the elderly will continue to uphold the tradition of "Elderly people - Shining examples," the heroic spirit of "Dien Hong," and contribute their wisdom and efforts to work together with the entire Party, people, and army to realize the aspiration of building a peaceful, independent, unified, democratic, and prosperous Vietnam as beloved President Ho Chi Minh always wished.

As part of the celebration, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly was honored to receive the First-Class Labor Medal and simultaneously launched the humanitarian program "Bright Eyes for the Elderly".

The objectives of the humanitarian program "Bright Eyes for the Elderly" are: Over 90% of key officials of the Elderly Association at all levels will receive training and guidance to improve their awareness and skills in eye care for the elderly; over 90% of the elderly will be examined and screened for some basic eye diseases, especially cataracts, glaucoma, or refractive errors, to ensure timely detection and early intervention. 100% of the elderly, especially those under social welfare policies, those in difficult circumstances, and those in remote areas, will receive free treatment for cataracts.
