Attending at the Hanoi city bridge were Vice Chairman of the Hanoi City People's Committee Vu Thu Ha, Head of the Hanoi City Elderly Affairs Committee, along with officials and members.
In his commemorative speech, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly Nguyen Thanh Binh reviewed the process of establishment and development, and contributions of the elderly and the Vietnam Association of the Elderly.

Since its establishment, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly has held 6 Congresses. According to data from Project 06/CP, as of March 7, 2023, the country has nearly 17 million elderly people. Currently, about 9 million people are directly involved in labor, production and business; 1.3 million people are directly involved in activities in the grassroots political system; nearly 750,000 people participate in the work of the Party, government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and mass organizations; more than 300,000 people participate in reconciliation teams and ensure security and order in villages and hamlets.
According to comrade Nguyen Thanh Binh, in any circumstances, the elderly must be absolutely loyal to the Party and the national interests, continue to promote the "Dien Hong" spirit, determined to successfully carry out their tasks; be exemplary in implementing the Party's guidelines and policies and laws of the State; actively participate in implementing the "four pillars" according to the four Resolutions of the Politburo; promote the "Old Age - Bright Example" movement, worthy of being a political force and an important resource contributing to the development of the country; coordinate and well implement the National Strategy for the Elderly approved by the Government and the tasks assigned by the Prime Minister; participate in promoting digital transformation, green transformation, emission reduction, start-ups, job creation, building new rural areas, civilized urban areas, etc.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien expressed his joy and excitement and conveyed to the elderly people nationwide the greetings of General Secretary To Lam and other Party and State leaders; wishing the elderly people across the country good health and happiness.
Affirming that the Party, State, family and society always pay special attention to and take care of the elderly, comrade Do Van Chien emphasized: “The fine cultural tradition of the Vietnamese people has always respected and honored the elderly. The elderly, grandfathers and grandmothers are valuable assets of society, of each clan and each family. The wisdom, experience and enthusiasm of the elderly are always a solid spiritual support for society, family and descendants. The elderly are always exemplary, participating in movements and major campaigns launched by the Party and State, contributing to building the homeland more and more prosperous and beautiful”.

On behalf of the leaders of the Party, State and Vietnam Fatherland Front, comrade Do Van Chien acknowledged, welcomed and warmly congratulated the valuable and proud achievements that the Association of the Elderly and the elderly across the country have achieved in the past time; at the same time, he requested that Party committees at all levels, authorities, the Fatherland Front, mass organizations, and Associations of the Elderly at all levels from the central to grassroots levels continue to thoroughly grasp the consistent viewpoints of the Party and State, identifying the elderly as an important political and social force in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland; caring for and promoting the role of the elderly is the responsibility of the Party, State, society and family.
“In the coming time, the Association of the Elderly needs to proactively arrange and consolidate the organization of the Association to be streamlined, operate effectively and efficiently according to the model of a two-level local government, be an active member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, closely follow the grassroots and residential areas; strongly innovate the content and methods of operation, grasp the thoughts and aspirations of members; propagate and encourage children and grandchildren to agree, support, and voluntarily implement all policies and guidelines of the Party and policies and laws of the State,” emphasized comrade Do Van Chien.
Along with that, the Associations of the Elderly at all levels proactively develop practical, feasible solutions that are suitable to reality, successfully organize the implementation of the "Strategy for the Elderly to 2035, vision 2045" and the Project "Elderly people participate in digital transformation, green transformation, entrepreneurship and job creation". The Associations at all levels proactively coordinate with relevant agencies to summarize the implementation of Directive 59-CT/TU of the Central Party Secretariat on caring for the elderly; research, proactively propose, amend and supplement a number of contents of the Law on the Elderly, create a legal framework, propose new policies for the activities of the Associations at all levels, in order to protect, care for and better promote important resources from the elderly.
Affirming that the Party, the State and the whole society always respect and appreciate the great contributions of generations of elderly people who have contributed to the cause of national liberation, building and defending the Fatherland, comrade Do Van Chien expressed his deep trust and great expectation that the elderly will continue to promote the tradition of "Old age - Bright example", the "Dien Hong" spirit, contributing their intelligence and efforts to join the entire Party, people and army in realizing the aspiration to build a peaceful, independent, unified, democratic and prosperous Vietnam as beloved Uncle Ho always wished.

Within the framework of the Celebration, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly was honored to receive the First Class Labor Medal and at the same time launched the humanitarian program "Bright eyes for the elderly".
Objectives of the humanitarian program “Bright eyes for the elderly”: More than 90% of key staff of the Elderly Association at all levels are trained, instructed, and have their awareness and skills raised on eye care for the elderly; more than 90% of the elderly are examined and screened for some basic eye diseases, especially cataracts, glaucoma or refractive errors, for timely detection and early intervention. 100% of the elderly, especially those under the policy, those in difficult circumstances, and those in remote areas, who are examined and diagnosed with cataracts will be treated free of charge.
