On June 16, the Provincial People's Committee organized a workshop on developing the value of grape trees and grape products in Ninh Thuan province. Comrades: Nguyen Hoang Hiep, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD); Le Huyen, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Dang Kim Cuong, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; Le Trong Dam, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper co-chaired the workshop.

The province currently has 1,052.8 hectares of grape growing area (of which the harvested area is 1,000.8 hectares), the average yield is 256.8 quintals/ha, the output is 25,705 tons; accounting for 3-3.5% of the total cultivated area, reaching 19-20% of the total production value in the cultivation industry. On average, the market is supplied with about 26,000-28,000 tons each year. Up to now, the People's Committee of Ninh Thuan province has recognized 134 products that have achieved OCOP product certification (16 products are rated 3 stars, 5 products are rated 4 stars and 1 potential 5-star product)...

Speaking at the workshop, comrade Nguyen Hoang Hiep said that in order to effectively develop and increase the value of agricultural products in general and grapevines in particular, the provincial Department of Agriculture needs to focus on developing the agricultural ecosystem, building a green economy , a circular economy in agriculture, contributing to environmental protection, reducing greenhouse gas emissions; encouraging startups, innovation and promoting digital transformation in agriculture, diversifying export markets...

Based on the proposal of Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep, many presentations and experience sharing from managers, scientists, businesses and grape growers have clarified the tasks and solutions that the provincial Department of Agriculture has proposed in the coming time. Specifically: Continuing to review and adjust the planning of grape production areas to suit the reality, associated with converting areas of crops with low economic efficiency to grape growing, ensuring good exploitation of the potential of lands suitable for grapes; prioritizing the planning of grape growing locations with concentrated areas, large-field production, creating advantages for investment in production infrastructure, traffic infrastructure, associated with experiential tourism; Promoting research and testing of new grape varieties with higher quality and productivity than current varieties to expand and develop the market, especially the export market...

In his concluding remarks at the workshop, Comrade Le Huyen, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, emphasized that the locality's wish in this workshop is to call on organizations and individuals to participate in all stages from breeding, production, processing and consumption associated with tourism to develop the value of grapes and grape products in Ninh Thuan more and more strongly. He assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to review and absorb the comments of the delegates at the workshop to continue advising the Provincial People's Committee to direct the implementation of specific tasks and solutions to implement sustainable development of grapes and grape products associated with the value chain in all stages: Production - processing - consumption in the coming time.

On this occasion, the Provincial People's Committee awarded the "Beautiful Grape Trellis" Contest in 2023. The first prize went to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tri's household (Ninh Son); the second prize went to Mr. Phan Van Minh's household (Phan Rang - Thap Cham City) and Tong Minh Hoang's household (Ninh Phuoc); 3 third prizes and 4 consolation prizes went to grape growers in Ninh Hai and Ninh Phuoc districts.
