Econometrics and Applications Olympiad: 10 years of creating digital human resources for the new era

In the context that the Party identifies private economic development and high-quality human resources as key growth drivers, Resolutions No. 68-NQ/TW (2025) and Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW (2024) of the Politburo have clearly stated: Science, technology, innovation and digital transformation are strategic breakthroughs for sustainable national development.

One of the typical models that realizes that spirit is the National Student Science Competition on Econometrics and Applications, a national-scale academic playground co-organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association, the Academy of Finance and the Institute of Mathematics. More than just a competition, the Competition has become a symbol of serious academic spirit, of passion for applying mathematical models, econometrics, and data science, spreading strongly among students nationwide.

Over the past 10 years, the contest has attracted 197 schools with 1,091 topics from more than 3,000 students, including Vietnamese students studying abroad. The contest has awarded 4 special prizes, 47 first prizes, 113 second prizes, 215 third prizes and 487 consolation prizes, with a total prize value of nearly 1 billion VND, along with many scholarships to support students in difficult circumstances and ethnic minorities.

From the initial 5 participating schools, the Competition has now expanded to 26 schools with 344 research projects in 2025. The topics have not only increased in quantity but also improved in quality, with modern research methods integrating AI, Big Data, applied to current fields such as digital economy, green finance, climate change, international geopolitics.

The competition has helped many students reach out to the world, becoming researchers, data experts, and economists at prestigious global academic centers.
