More than 3 months before taking office, Mr. Donald Trump appointed the first personnel in the new administration.

On November 7, US President-elect Donald Trump appointed Ms. Susie Wiles as White House Chief of Staff for a second term starting January 20, 2025.

According to CNN , in a statement, Mr. Donald Trump stated: "Ms. Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history and was an indispensable part of both my successful 2016 and 2020 campaigns."

The US President-elect assessed that Ms. Susie is "strong, intelligent, creative and admired and respected by everyone", and affirmed that she "will continue to work tirelessly to make America great again".

Susie Wiles was a senior adviser to Donald Trump’s 2016, 2020 and 2024 presidential campaigns. She previously worked at the US Department of Labor under President Ronald Reagan.

The White House Chief of Staff is the first position announced by President-elect Donald Trump in the new administration. This is an appointment that does not require the approval of the US Senate.

Meanwhile, AFP news agency on the same day quoted US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell as saying that he would not resign early if President-elect Donald Trump asked him to.

Speaking at a press conference after announcing a further 0.25% rate cut, Mr. Powell - whose term as Fed Chairman ends in 2026 - stressed that, by law, it is “not permissible” to fire any of the seven Fed Governors.

Mr. Powell’s comments underscore the delicate balance that policymakers may have to maintain in a second Trump term, especially given the president-elect’s recent criticism of the Fed.

During the campaign, Trump repeatedly accused Powell of favoring Democrats and said he would seek to replace him when his term as chairman ended. Notably, Trump was the first to appoint Powell to head the Fed.

President-elect Trump has said he wants at least some control over the Fed’s interest rate decisions. Under current US congressional rules, this is not allowed, as the agency must act independently to address both inflation and unemployment.
