Towards a sustainable green economy

In recent times, the province's green growth activities have been initially implemented effectively, in accordance with local conditions. In particular, through the first Red Brick and Ceramic Festival - Green Economy of Vinh Long Province in 2024, the province has sent a strong message about its commitment to building a green economy, digital economy, and circular economy.

Changing green growth perception

The economic development goals of Vinh Long province have been aiming for green and sustainable growth. Along with improving the business investment environment, the province encourages production and business through circular economic models, limiting emissions...

According to the Provincial People's Committee, Vinh Long has clearly identified the viewpoint and goals of green economic development and the circular economic model in the industrial and agricultural development plan; prioritizing industries that can use agricultural products of the province and the region as inputs for comprehensive use and improving the output efficiency of the production process; improving the resilience and adaptability to climate change of the socio-economic infrastructure system.

The results of the Provincial Green Index (PGI) 2023 announced by the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) show that Vinh Long ranked 10th in the PGI 2023. Vinh Long is one of the provinces that rarely suffers from natural disasters and is assessed to have good ability to respond, mitigate and overcome the consequences of natural disasters for local people and businesses.

Mr. Luong Trong Nghia - Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Investment said that the province has made efforts in directing and implementing tasks and solutions to improve the investment and business environment; improve environmental management activities and promote green growth.

The province considers environmental quality an important factor in minimizing pollution and natural disasters. The province has also built a database, software and mobile applications to digitize environmental monitoring and warning data to serve natural disaster prevention and control activities in Vinh Long province. At the same time, it has promoted propaganda to raise people's awareness in classifying, collecting and treating household waste; organizing the collection, transportation and treatment of household waste according to regulations; ensuring water quality and water source security for aquaculture, cultivation, animal husbandry, providing water for people's daily life and industrial production...

“The province has integrated environmental protection and natural disaster prevention into energy development programs and plans and implemented policies to encourage and support businesses in applying green technologies, contributing to promoting the development of an environmentally friendly business ecosystem. At the same time, businesses are encouraged to apply cleaner production to save resources and limit environmental pollution,” Mr. Nghia added.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 1st Red Brick and Ceramic Festival - Green Economy of Vinh Long Province in 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc said that currently, climate change and environmental pollution are global challenges, sustainable economic development and building a green economy are extremely necessary. This is not only a cultural event, but also an opportunity for Vinh Long to introduce the image of a green, sustainable economy, an attractive destination for domestic and international tourists.

Balancing economic development and environmental protection

According to the Department of Planning and Investment, in recent times, the province has implemented action plans, programs, etc. to contribute to restructuring and perfecting economic institutions towards greening existing sectors and encouraging the development of economic sectors that effectively use resources with high added value and protect the environment; respond to climate change, etc.

“In the coming time, Vinh Long province will continue to promote the results achieved from the implemented solutions. The province always wants to improve environmental issues, improve the quality of people's lives and landscape quality; build an environmentally friendly lifestyle, improve the ability to adapt to climate change; encourage innovation in developing sustainable production and business activities, promote high-quality green investment, and ensure green and sustainable development for the locality,” Mr. Nghia emphasized.

Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee - Bui Van Nghiem said that the first Red Brick and Ceramic Festival - Green Economy of Vinh Long province in 2024 aims to promote the potential and advantages of exploiting tourism of Mang Thit brick and ceramic craft village and promote and link tourism development in the Mekong Delta region. Thereby honoring the contributions to the development of green agriculture and sustainable development of the green economy of the Mekong Delta. Through the festival, Vinh Long province wishes to bring a strong message about its commitment to building a green economy, digital economy, circular economy, and at the same time building, developing and positioning the tourism brand.

According to the Provincial People's Committee, currently, in the journey of green economic development, Vinh Long has effectively implemented the Project Plan "Sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta region by 2030" in Vinh Long province; Green Field Project - Phero Rice; environmentally friendly production models; plan to plant 500,000 scattered trees in Vinh Long province in the period of 2021-2025...
In the field of science and technology, the province has implemented two projects: "Supporting enterprises to apply advanced management systems and productivity improvement tools or combining certification of product and goods quality in accordance with technical standards/regulations" and "Supporting assessment and certification of management systems, combining assessment and certification of product and goods quality in accordance with technical standards/regulations".
In addition, the province has prioritized the selection of technology and solutions for construction of energy-saving projects, using solar energy and LED lights instead of high-pressure lighting systems; developing green and sustainable traffic infrastructure, etc.
