On April 19, the State Nuclear Supervision Agency of Ukraine said that experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) conducted unannounced inspections at Ukraine's Rivne and Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plants to confirm that all nuclear materials at these facilities had been declared.
The agency's announcement said: "On April 18, the IAEA conducted unannounced inspections at the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant and the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant in accordance with the agreement between Ukraine and the IAEA on the application of safeguards related to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty."
The IAEA experts were also assisted by inspectors from the State Nuclear Supervision Agency of Ukraine and the purpose of the inspection was to confirm that there was no undeclared fissile material there, the statement said.
In November 2022, the IAEA conducted inspections at three nuclear facilities at Kiev’s request and did not identify any undeclared activities there. Following the inspections, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said the agency was ready to continue conducting inspections in Ukraine to ensure all activities were declared.
