Despite its top-tier security reputation, iOS is facing an increasingly sophisticated wave of cyberattacks. The Android operating system also faces a high risk, especially as artificial intelligence (AI) becomes a powerful tool for hackers.
iOS no longer has a "safe zone".
According to the latest report from cybersecurity firm Lookout, 19% of iOS devices in businesses were targeted by at least one phishing attack between January and September 2024, compared to 10.9% for Android. However, this difference doesn't simply reflect the superior security of Android, but is primarily due to the fact that the number of iOS devices in the workplace is more than double.

The most common attack method remains email phishing, but increasingly sophisticated tactics are emerging, such as impersonating executives or creating emergency situations to deceive employees. In addition, since 2019, over 473 million phishing websites have been recorded, indicating a surge in cyberattack campaigns targeting business users.
Another factor that makes iOS users vulnerable is Apple's decision to open its ecosystem to the European Union (EU), allowing third-party app downloads. This could undermine security, which is considered Apple's strength.
Challenges from AI
The Lookout report also shows that Android continues to be a top target for malware. Malware such as BnkRat and SpySolr target Android users to steal data, posing a significant challenge to the operating system. Cyberattacks targeting Android increased by 17% in Q3 2024, particularly in cases involving the theft of login credentials from businesses.
The study notes that good security largely depends on user vigilance and system updates, regardless of the device used. This suggests that iOS has clear security advantages thanks to its closed architecture and Apple's rigorous authentication measures. Regular updates continue to play a crucial role in preventing new threats.
However, experts also warn that in the context of rapidly developing technology, no platform is completely immune to cyberattacks. Therefore, iOS and Android users should be more vigilant, regularly update their systems, and avoid clicking on links from unknown sources. Good security depends not only on the system itself but also on the awareness of the users.
