Train derailment on Hai Van Pass fixed, railway route reopened

On the afternoon of November 2, rescue forces at the scene of the ASY2 freight train derailment in the Hai Van Pass area said that the railway line through the pass was clear.

Accordingly, the rescue team completed clearing 3 cargo containers that were overturned and tilted off track 1 at Km771+800 between the N2/4 mark of Hai Van Nam station, and continued to fix the problem on track 2.

By early afternoon on November 2, trains waiting at Lang Co station (Thua Thien-Hue) and Da Nang station were allowed to continue their journey.

Previously, at 9:10 p.m. on November 1, train ASY2, engine 602 pulling, engine 659 pushing, pulling 20 train cars (load capacity 840.7 tons) entered Hai Van Nam station.

At Km771+800 between N2/4 mark of Hai Van Nam station, at positions 13, 14, 15 in the train, the wheel axles of the cars flew off the rails, causing the containers on cars 641351, 631418 to topple onto track 2, and the container on car 641349 topple 45 degrees to the left in the direction of the train.

After the incident, the train dispatch unit blocked the section at 9:21 p.m. The railway management unit, the Railway Traffic Police force, and the railway safety management mobilized vehicles and personnel to the scene to carry out rescue operations.
