Khanh Hoa calls on ships to avoid storm Kalmaegi, coastal communes ready to respond

Faced with the complicated developments of storm Kalmaegi, Khanh Hoa province issued a dispatch directing response readiness work, and coastal communes also proactively evacuated people from dangerous areas.

On the afternoon of November 3, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Khac Toan signed a dispatch on responding to storm Kalmaegi near the East Sea, which is forecast to become storm number 13.

Must ensure safety of boats, aquaculturists, tourists

Accordingly, the Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee requested the Provincial Military Command to closely monitor warning bulletins, forecasts and developments of the storm; count and grasp the number of boats, guide vehicles and boats (including fishing boats, transport ships, construction ships, and tourist boats) to move to avoid or return to safe shelters.

Specifically, the Provincial Military Command must call on ships and boats still operating at sea to urgently return to shore or find safe places to avoid and shelter from the storm, to be completed before 10:00 a.m. on November 5; advise the Provincial People's Committee to decide to limit or prohibit ships and vehicles from going out to sea and operating at sea (no later than 12:00 p.m. on November 6); propose the Provincial People's Committee to direct the prohibition of people and tourists from swimming in the sea when necessary.

The dispatch also requested the People's Committees of communes, wards and special zones to review and be ready to deploy response plans for strong storms and floods after storms; ensure the safety of people, vehicles and property at tourist sites, aquaculture, fishing, constructions at sea, on islands, coastal areas; areas at high risk of flash floods and landslides...

The Department of Agriculture and Environment is requested to direct reservoir management units to urgently carry out operations and regulate flood discharge appropriately to ensure water storage for production, construction safety and flood prevention in downstream areas; urgently organize inspections of reservoirs in the province (pay attention to reservoirs of individuals and businesses) to promptly have solutions to handle, overcome and ensure the safety of reservoirs during the rainy and flood season.

Mr. Ha The An - Chairman of Nam Cam Ranh Commune People's Committee - said that due to the specificity of the commune, there are many households raising shrimp and cobia in cages and rafts at sea. On the same morning, the commune mobilized households to reinforce cages and rafts and absolutely not stay on the rafts to raise aquatic products when the storm hits.

The commune has prepared a response plan for typhoon Kalmaegi and has prepared enough materials and necessities to promptly support people when they suffer damage caused by the storm. "We have prepared enough infrastructure to evacuate people to safety in an emergency situation," said Mr. An.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Van Nhuan - Secretary of the Party Committee of Nam Ninh Hoa Commune (Khanh Hoa Province) - said that the commune has mobilized and requested people not to stay on cages and rafts when the storm hits. The commune government will also coordinate with relevant units to check vulnerable areas that may be flooded or landslides to proactively evacuate people, check warehouses and barracks, and be ready to welcome people to take shelter from the storm.

Naval Region 4 deploys to respond to storm Kalmaegi

On the same day, November 3, the Naval Region 4 Command held a conference to deploy measures to prevent and combat storm Kalmaegi to ensure absolute safety for people and vehicles and to help local people.

Rear Admiral Nguyen Anh Tuan - Commander of Naval Region 4 - requested that subordinate forces not be subjective in the work of preventing, combating and responding to storm Kalmaegi, agencies and units strictly maintain 24/24 hour command, on-duty and combat duty regimes; deploy a smooth communication system, ready for rescue and regulation.

For the islands, Rear Admiral Nguyen Anh Tuan requested to be ready to rescue fishermen, strengthen the reinforcement of houses and barracks, and clear sewers and drainage systems to ensure absolute safety for people and vehicles of the unit.
