The V-League 2025-2026 draw and schedule have been finalized. The new season will kick off in just over three weeks. However, Quang Nam FC is causing chaos in the league by announcing its dissolution and merger withSHB Da Nang FC.
The team also left open the possibility of staying if local leaders showed interest and directed them to seek and invite sponsors. However, given the current difficult economic situation, this is highly unlikely.
The story of Quang Nam FC is one of the typical cases in Vietnamese football. Under the (unofficial) sponsorship of owner Do Quang Hien, Quang Nam FC earned the right to play in the top league of Vietnamese football in 2014.
Furthermore, Quang Nam FC even won the V-League 2017 championship and the National Super Cup 2018. Present at the club's celebratory ceremony at that time, Chairman Hien awarded the team 8 billion VND.
Most recently, in the V-League 2024-2025 season, Chairman Hien even went to Hang Day Stadium to reward Quang Nam Club with 500 million VND after their 1-2 loss to Hanoi Club in round 20 at the end of April.

Besides Hanoi FC and Quang Nam FC, Chairman Hien also sponsors SHB Da Nang FC. And now, with the merger of Quang Nam and Da Nang, the combined sponsorship burden for the two teams will be eased.
It's tough for the players, who worked hard to keep Quang Nam FC in the V-League, and now they face the prospect of the team's survival. Not to mention, with the league about to start and all teams having settled their rosters, it won't be easy for Quang Nam players to find a new team.
But this is not the first time Vietnamese football has faced difficulties due to its reliance on the influence of wealthy club owners.
Navibank Saigon FC was dissolved in 2012. A year later, Saigon Xuan Thanh FC (owned by Nguyen Duc Thuy) was also disbanded. Both clubs only existed for three seasons before disappearing when their owners left football.
Currently, Mr. Thuy is the main sponsor of his hometown club, Ninh Binh, and also sponsors many other clubs in both the V-League and the First Division. If one day Mr. Thuy were to lose interest in football, it's hard to imagine how many clubs would face difficulties or be dissolved if they couldn't find a new sponsor.
Like Long An FC last season, they received last-minute sponsorship from LPBank (along with player support from Hoang Anh Gia Lai FC), which allowed them to register and compete in the 2024-2025 First Division League.
Now, without financial support or players, Long An Club's future remains uncertain, especially since Long An province has been merged with Tay Ninh.
