Launching Vietnam Sea and Islands Week 2025

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment launched the Vietnam Sea and Islands Week 2025 with the theme "Green technology for sustainable oceans", along with a series of nationwide activities to protect the environment and develop a sustainable marine economy.

On the afternoon of May 28, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment held a press conference to launch a series of events for the Vietnam Sea and Islands Week 2025, in response to World Environment Day (June 5), World Oceans Day (June 8) and the Month of Action for the Environment. This is the opening activity for nationwide programs that will take place throughout June 2025.

The national launching ceremony in response to Vietnam Sea and Islands Week will take place on the evening of June 6 at Ho Chi Minh Square, Dong Hoi City (Quang Binh) with the theme "Green technology for sustainable oceans".

On the same day, many seminars will be held, focusing on the institution of marine economic development, offshore wind power, application of artificial intelligence in environmental communication and exhibition of local marine economic products.

Previously, on the morning of June 1, a national rally in response to World Environment Day will take place at October 30 Square, Ha Long City (Quang Ninh), organized by the Agriculture and Environment Newspaper.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thach, Editor-in-Chief of Agriculture and Environment Newspaper, this year's theme is "fighting plastic pollution" with many creative activities.

The national campaign "Join hands to reduce plastic waste - spread green lifestyle" will launch from the end of May and last until the end of June 2025.

Speaking at the press conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Le Minh Ngan said that this year's response activities revolved around two main themes: "The miraculous ocean - preserving the source of life for humanity" and "Fighting plastic pollution".

Through the series of activities, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment hopes that people from urban to rural areas, from mountainous areas to islands will act together for a green Vietnam and a sustainable ocean.

Providing more information about the specific content of the Vietnam Sea and Islands Week, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sea and Islands Administration Nguyen Hong Hai said that the main series of activities will take place on June 6 in Quang Binh province. In the morning, there will be a workshop on "Institutions, planning - opportunities for developing a blue marine economy"; in the afternoon, there will be a workshop on "Application of AI in journalism, communication, marine environmental culture and marine tourism development"; in the evening, there will be a national rally with the participation of government leaders and international representatives.

Director of the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands Nguyen Duc Toan said that the theme "Green technology for sustainable oceans" reflects Vietnam's consistent orientation in developing the marine economy in conjunction with environmental protection.
