According to the Vietnam Road Administration, Road Management Area IV has just updated the latest report on the situation of overcoming the landslide and flooding on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet and Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressways, after many hours of heavy rain in the South Central and Southeast regions. By early this afternoon (December 4), traffic on both routes had been restored, and vehicles were moving normally again in both directions.

Water recedes, highway traffic resumes

On the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway, since the morning of December 4, heavy rain has caused water to overflow onto the road surface, and at the same time, some slopes have experienced landslides, forcing authorities to deploy temporary barriers and reduce speed to ensure safety. Water flows quickly from the hillsides, causing localized flooding, limiting drivers' visibility and affecting traffic speed.

"By 2:00 p.m. the same day, the water level on the route had gradually receded, and vehicles could move again," said a representative of Road Management Area IV.

Road management units, patrol forces and maintenance contractors coordinated to clean up the scene, collect rocks and soil at the landslide sites and check the safety of the road surface structure. After assessing the traffic conditions, the authorities reopened the route in both directions. Traffic is moving smoothly, there is no longer any congestion.

Also on the afternoon of December 4, the situation on the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway had a positive change. At Km25+369 - the point of deep flooding in the morning due to prolonged heavy rain, water overflowed over 2 lanes - by 2:20 p.m., the water level had significantly decreased in both directions. The forces on duty coordinated to check and assess the safety level before reopening the road.

By the time the road was opened to traffic, the road surface was no longer flooded, and the drainage system was operating more effectively as the rain eased. The direct response team continued to anchor equipment, check pumps at the scene, and scan the entire route to detect early risks of re-flooding.

Road Management Area IV said it will continue to closely monitor weather developments and the status of highways in the area, and organize a full force on duty 24/7 to respond promptly if any situations arise.

Forces continue to be on standby to prevent landslides.

Road Management Area IV said it will continue to closely monitor weather developments and the status of highways in the area, and organize a full force on duty 24/7 to respond promptly if any situations arise. The unit will also continuously update reports to superior agencies, media and relevant forces to ensure safe and smooth traffic in complex weather conditions.

According to records, Km215 is a low-lying area of the Phan Thiet-Dau Giay Expressway, near the Phan River and was flooded in July 2023. After this incident, the Dau Giay-Phan Thiet Expressway Project Management Board deployed remedial measures. However, the heavy rain that lasted on the night of December 3 caused the area to continue to be flooded again.
