Defendants Nguyen Thi Hoa and Le Xuan Tung
This is the result after a period of focused investigation and discovery of a gold smuggling ring from Laos to Vietnam directed by the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security. This ring was led by Nguyen Thi Hoa (residing in Lao Bao Town, Huong Hoa District, Quang Tri Province) and the "tax evasion" occurred at Phu Quy Gold Investment Joint Stock Company.
Initially, the investigation agency determined that from 2022 to present, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa and her accomplices have organized a smuggling ring of over 3 tons of gold, with a total value of about 5,000 billion VND from Laos to Vietnam through Lao Bao border gate to sell to domestic gold shops for illegal profits.
The investigation results also determined that Phu Quy Gold Investment Joint Stock Company had declared and reported dishonestly on tax settlement in 2021, violating the provisions of Clause 2, Article 143 of the Tax Administration Law No. 38/2019/QH14 on tax evasion, causing damage to the State of more than 6 billion VND.
Based on investigation documents, the Ministry of Public Security has prosecuted and applied preventive measures against Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa and 17 others for the crime of "smuggling", prescribed in Clause 4, Article 188 of the Penal Code.
Prosecute and apply preventive measures against Mr. Le Xuan Tung for the crime of "tax evasion", as prescribed in Clause 3, Article 200 of the Penal Code.
According to Lieutenant General To An Xo, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency is expanding the investigation into the case; at the same time, reviewing, seizing, and freezing the assets of those involved to ensure the recovery of assets for the State.
