Tonight (October 1), Vietnam's number 1 swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang brought good news to the Vietnamese swimming team when he excellently won the gold medal in the 800m freestyle at the Asian Swimming Championship held in India.
In the final, Nguyen Huy Hoang competed with 7 opponents including Ilya Sibirtsev (Uzbekistan), Haibo Xu (China), Shun Tanaka (Japan), Kushagra Rawat (India), Hoe Yean Khiew (Malaysia), Ratth Thammananthachote (Thailand) and teammate Tran Van Nguyen Quoc.

Just like in the 1,500m freestyle event two days ago, Nguyen Huy Hoang showed good form, defeating his opponents to finish first, winning the gold medal with a time of 7 minutes 57 seconds 58. Second place was Ilya Sibirtsev with a time of 8 minutes 0 seconds 37 and third place was swimmer Haibo Xu with a time of 8 minutes 02 seconds 34.

This Asian Swimming Championship did not have the participation of some strong athletes in the 1,500 m and 800 m distances, opening up opportunities for Nguyen Huy Hoang and he took full advantage to not only win 1 but 2 gold medals, which is also a historic achievement for this swimmer. Unfortunately, the 800 m freestyle event will not be held in the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand in December. However, fans expect the "Gianh River otter" to maintain his form to achieve high results for the Vietnamese swimming team in the 33rd SEA Games, where he is expected to win gold medals in the 1,500 m freestyle, 400 m freestyle and 10 km long-distance swimming events.
