Study to earn money to cure mother's illness

Two new students, Le Quang Dat (University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University) and Ho Thi Bich Thuan (Phu Yen University) stepped onto the stage to tell their life stories. Bich Thuan and her brother were adopted by the couple.
The biggest shock for Thuan wasn't learning she wasn't her parents' biological child, but rather receiving the news that her adoptive father had a terminal illness during Tet this year and passed away less than six months ago.
"I don't care whether she's adopted or biological because, for me, a mother's love is what I feel most strongly. I want to finish university and stay in my hometown to take care of my mother," Thuan said.
The girl said she had two wishes: for her father to live again and for her mother to be healthy again, even though she knew they would never come true. She said she wanted to study hard and earn money to treat her mother so that her father, wherever he was, would smile at her efforts.

Meanwhile, Le Quang Dat lost both his parents in a short period of time. At the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing was required, so Dat could not go to Ho Chi Minh City to take care of his mother during her fight against cancer. The day Dat and his brothers were reunited was also the countdown to their mother's final days.
The two orphaned children were taken in by their uncle out of compassion. But he could only help to some extent; how could he fill the void of love left by children who had lost their parents? Only unwavering resilience helped Dat persevere each day, striving to achieve academic results that earned him much admiration.
He was surprisingly calm and strong. The day he learned that he had passed the university entrance exam, Dat lit incense on the altar as a greeting and prayed to his parents to always follow his journey. When asked what motivated him to keep going, Dat briefly said: “If I keep feeling inferior about my situation, I will not be able to move forward. I choose to try, not to let myself think too much about the losses I have experienced.”
I will study hard to take care of my future and my sister's. Although I don't have my parents with me, I will not be discouraged or back down on the road ahead.

Send each other the message "Give"!
Journalist Truong Bao Chau, deputy editor-in-chief of Tuoi Tre newspaper, speaks at the scholarship awarding ceremony – Photo: Lam Thien
Journalist Truong Bao Chau - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre Newspaper - said that the 21-year scholarship program "Tiep suc den truong" will not stop. As long as there are still poor, studious new students who cannot afford to pay tuition, the kind hearts will continue to grow, connect, and warm this life.
The gratitude, according to journalist Bao Chau, that the new students across the country in general, and Phu Yen new students in particular, send to the units, philanthropists and the large number of Tuoi Tre newspaper readers at home and abroad is difficult to express in words. The message from those who help students lies in the two words "Give"! So you do not worry about who to repay and how, but confidently receive the first help in life with faith in the kindness of people.
“No one can change their circumstances. No one wants to be orphaned or abandoned. No one wants to live in a house full of deaf and mute people. No one wants their mother and sister to be mentally ill. But we can choose how to think about these pains, be grateful for being born, for having youth, and for being able to choose this path or that path,” shared a representative of Tuoi Tre newspaper.
