A set of stamps on biosafety protection.
As an island nation, New Zealand possesses a pristine natural environment – a key element contributing to its unique identity and tourism appeal. The country has established a world-class biosecurity system, effectively preventing numerous threats such as foot-and-mouth disease, the brown stink bug, and the Queensland fruit fly. New Zealand has also successfully eradicated many invasive species and effectively controlled Mycoplasma bovis in livestock. Biosecurity efforts not only aim to preserve the natural environment and exports but also protect public health through rabies prevention, control of disease-carrying mosquitoes and ticks, and close monitoring of global avian influenza outbreaks. These achievements stem from the collaborative efforts of many forces, from government agencies and industries to scientists , Māori organizations, citizens, businesses, and tourists.
