The ASEAN Federation of Engineers receives the Friendship Order from the President of Vietnam.

For its sustained and practical contributions to enhancing the status of Vietnamese engineers and promoting integration and community development, the Federation of ASEAN Engineers Organizations has been awarded the Friendship Order by the President of Vietnam.

On the morning of December 12th, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA), a ceremony was held to award the Friendship Order and Medal from the President of Vietnam, as well as the ASEAN Professional Engineer Certificate, to 60 Vietnamese engineers.

Attending the ceremony, on the Vietnamese side were current and former leaders of the VUSTA Standing Committee; Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Van, Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Cultural Diplomacy , Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ms. Nguyen Quynh Lien, member of the Presidium, Head of the Democracy, Supervision and Social Criticism Committee, Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Mr. Bui Van Minh, Deputy Head of the Science and Technology and Digital Transformation Committee; and representatives of the Vietnam Electricity Group.

Representing the Federation of ASEAN Engineers were Mr. Simon Yeong Chin Chow, Head of the ASEAN Engineers Registration Committee, AFEO; Mr. Yau Chau Fong, Vice President of the Malaysian Institute of Engineers, former Head of the ASEAN Engineers Registration Committee, AFEO; and Mr. Tan Chee Fai, Deputy Dean, University of Construction Malaysia.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Phan Xuan Dung, President of VUSTA and Chairman of the ASEAN Engineers Registration Council, emphasized that the Friendship Order and Friendship Medal are prestigious awards from the Vietnamese State to international organizations and individuals who have made significant contributions to strengthening and developing friendship and cooperation with Vietnam. Today's event holds special significance, demonstrating the profound appreciation of the Party, State, and people of Vietnam, as well as recognizing the sustained and practical contributions of the Federation of ASEAN Engineers Organizations and Mr. Yau Chau Fong personally to VUSTA and the Vietnamese engineering community in particular, and to scientific, technological, and professional cooperation activities in the ASEAN region in general.

Chairman Phan Xuan Dung stated that VUSTA has represented Vietnam in this cooperation mechanism since 1998. Over more than two decades of cooperation, VUSTA has actively implemented initiatives, promoting the registration of ASEAN professional engineers; closely coordinating with the AFEO Federation to register 776 Vietnamese engineers as ASEAN professional engineers, promoting professional exchange, professional recognition, and raising technical standards. As a member of the AFEO Federation, VUSTA has hosted the AFEO Federation's annual conference three times (2000, 2010, and 2020); the AFEO Federation's mid-term conference in 2016, and most recently in August 2025.

Chairman Phan Xuan Dung stated that, in addition to the awarding of prestigious titles by the President of Vietnam, today's ceremony will also present ASEAN Professional Engineer certificates to 60 Vietnamese engineers who have strived and met the stringent standards of the ASEAN Professional Engineer system by 2025. This is a source of pride and motivation for the engineering team to continue training, innovating, and contributing to the development of the country.

With the strong foundation of cooperation built over the years, VUSTA and the Federation of ASEAN Engineers will continue to implement many new, effective, and practical programs, contributing to raising the level of Vietnamese and ASEAN engineers in the new regional and global context - VUSTA President Phan Xuan Dung expressed his hope.
