AP reported that Time magazine on December 11th honored "the architects of AI" as its Person of the Year 2025, emphasizing that 2025 is the year when the true potential of artificial intelligence technology will be revealed.

"For ushering in the era of thinking machines, for astonishing and alarming humanity, for changing the present and pushing boundaries, the architects of artificial intelligence deserve to be named Time magazine's Person of the Year 2025," Time magazine stated on social media.

One of Time magazine's two covers is inspired by the famous "Lunch on the Skyscraper" photograph from the 1930s. This cover features eight tech leaders: Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, AMD CEO Lisa Su, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Google's DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, and artificial intelligence pioneer Li Fei-Fei, who founded his own startup, World Labs, last year.

“The Person of the Year award is an effective way to draw the world ’s attention to the people who have shaped our lives. And this year, no one has had a greater impact than the individuals who envisioned, designed, and built artificial intelligence,” said Time magazine’s editor-in-chief, Sam Jacobs.

Time magazine noted that the attendance of CEOs of artificial intelligence companies at President Donald Trump's inauguration earlier this year at the Capitol was a sign of the field's growing importance.

In 2024, Time honored Trump, then President-elect of the United States, as Person of the Year.
