On the afternoon of June 3, 2025, in Hanoi , the Vietnam Film Promotion and Development Association (VFDA) and the People's Committee of Da Nang City held a press conference to announce the program "The 3rd Da Nang Asian Film Festival" (DANAFF III).

DANAFF III will launch a new program “DANAFF Talents - Potential Cinema Talents”, including training and networking activities for young people such as acting workshops, “Project Incubators” and Master Classes with international experts.

Although it was the first time it was held, the “Project Incubator” attracted great attention, with 14 potential projects selected from dozens of submitted applications. The best project in the Asian art film category will receive 8,000 Euros from the French National Cinema Center and 3 months of support from the Mylab program; the Vietnamese film category will receive a prize of 5,000 USD from the American Cinema Association.

Not only focusing on new creations, DANAFF III also devoted space to looking back at the history of Vietnamese cinema. The selected film screening program “Half a century of Vietnamese war films” introduced 22 typical works on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the country’s reunification. In parallel, there was a seminar “Imprints of Vietnamese war films since the country’s reunification” with the participation of many researchers and filmmakers.

Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the Vietnam Cinema Promotion and Development Association, shared: "We have selected 22 war films to screen, associated with December 22, the anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, to honor cinematic works that reflect war, depicting losses, tragedies, and aspirations for life. We hope that when filmmakers, directors, actors attend, together with the audience, they will review these films, creating excitement and arousing interest, especially for those in the profession.

Re-screening these films also creates opportunities for audiences and international colleagues to understand more about the profound values of Vietnamese war films, with new and different perspectives compared to other cinematic works. Through that, we can introduce untold stories, slices of personal life in the context of war, and clarify the tragedies and aspirations of life in difficult times."

One of the highlights of DANAFF III will be the "Asian Cinema Panorama" program, which will introduce the most outstanding and successful films at international film festivals in the past year. In particular, the "Korean Cinema Spotlight" program will bring 14 outstanding works of Korean cinema, reflecting the remarkable development of Korea from the 60s to the present.

In addition, a seminar with the theme "Korean Cinema: Lessons from international success and experience in developing the film industry" will be held, opening up opportunities for exchange and learning between Vietnamese and international filmmakers.

Compared to previous editions, DANAFF III has grown significantly in scale, with 100 selected films and about 200 screenings. The Vietnamese representative competing at the Da Nang Asian Film Festival this time is "Rain on the Butterfly Wings" by young female director Duong Dieu Linh. "Rain on the Butterfly Wings" received 2 awards at the International Film Critics Week within the framework of the 81st Venice Film Festival, including the "Best Film" award.

In the Vietnamese Film category, 12 works will compete for the award, including some outstanding films such as: "Detective Kien: Headless Case", "Cam", "Ancestral House", "Ghost Lamp", "Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story"...
