Besides considering academic transcripts and using the results of the 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi , many private high schools organize exams and interviews in English to recruit students.
This year, the Vietnam-Australia School in Hanoi is recruiting 102 students for Grade 10 in two programs: the Cambridge International Program and the Special Education Program (SEP). Applications will be accepted until June 30th.
Students in Hanoi will be admitted directly if they meet one of five criteria: being an excellent student for four years of junior high school or having an average score of 8 or higher in all subjects, with English in the most recent exam above 8.5; having an IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent; winning a prize in the 9th grade student competition in Mathematics, Literature, or English, or a district-level prize with the condition that the English grade in the transcript is 8 or higher; or passing the entrance exam to specialized high schools in Hanoi.
If students do not qualify for direct admission, they must take a knowledge test, including a 60-minute English test, followed by a 10-minute interview with a foreign teacher. Students from outside the province follow a similar process, but also take additional tests in Mathematics and Literature.
The application fee for 10th grade at the school is 2.1 million VND.
The Vinschool system has also announced enrollment for all levels. Specifically, students applying for the standard 10th grade will take exams in Mathematics, Literature, English, and logical thinking; the advanced program will take additional exams in Science and Mathematics in English. Following these exams, students will proceed to a direct interview with teachers.
The admission requirements are that students must have good conduct and above-average academic performance throughout all years of junior high school. The school announced two admission periods: January-August and November-December.

Some schools, such as Newton Middle and High School, have already admitted their first 10th-grade students by the end of January. Applicants to these schools must pass an aptitude test, in which the semi-international system takes exams in Math and English, while the American/Cambridge Bilingual system takes an additional comprehensive test including Math, Science, and Arts.
This year, FPT High School is accepting applications for admission to 10th grade from now until all slots are filled, maintaining three stable admission methods: reviewing academic records, considering achievements and awards, and using the 10th grade entrance exam scores.
For admission based on academic transcripts, students need to have a total score of at least 62/90 in Mathematics, Literature, and Foreign Language from three consecutive semesters in grades 8 and 9.
If using the achievement and award-based evaluation method, students need to meet one of the following conditions: achieving excellent grades for 3.5 years in junior high school; winning a national award in arts, sports, or science and technology in grade 9; or winning an award for outstanding student at the district or higher level.
Finally, if using exam scores, candidates need to participate in the local public high school entrance exam, using the scores in Mathematics, Literature, and Foreign Language to submit their application.
In all three admission methods, FPT High School requires students to have a good or excellent conduct grade in all years of junior high school. Tuition fees for 10th grade students in the 2024-2025 school year are 67 million VND, increasing to 72-79 million VND in subsequent years.
Marie Curie High School has not yet issued specific admission guidelines, but stated that it will continue to use the results of the Hanoi 10th grade entrance exam as the admission method. This year, the school is admitting 10th grade students at three campuses: My Dinh, Van Phu, and Viet Hung.
Previously, secondary and high schools such as Le Quy Don, Archimedes Academy, and Nguyen Sieu... had announced their 10th-grade admission plans. Most organized entrance exams, offered direct admission, or added bonus points for candidates with IELTS certificates.
According to the Department of Education and Training, Hanoi has nearly 100 private high schools, enrolling approximately 27,000 tenth-grade students each year. Tuition fees at these schools range from 800,000 to over ten million dong per month.
