The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has just planned to estimate important milestones for the first-level admission period and 10th grade admission in 2026.

Accordingly, the schedule for implementing the entrance exams for the first level and 10th grade in 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City is divided into 4 phases. Specifically:

Phase 1: Review and assessment, period from January 1 to February 28, 2026

At this stage, we will conduct statistics on student data across the city. Evaluate the student reception capacity of educational institutions. From there, we will build detailed enrollment targets.

Phase 2: From February 1 to March 31, 2026

The Department of Education and Training drafts the enrollment plan for all levels. Collects opinions from relevant parties and issues the official plan.

Phase 3 is the implementation and organization phase.

This phase is from March 31 to May 31, 2026: Implement propaganda and dissemination of the plan, receive registration documents, and prepare facilities.

Phase 4: Exam organization and supervision, from June 1 to August 31, 2026

Organize exams, admissions; monitor and evaluate results, summarize and draw lessons.

A 10th grade exam in Ho Chi Minh City

After the merger, Ho Chi Minh City will have the largest education and training sector in the country. In the 2025-2026 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will have nearly 2.6 million students, more than 3,500 schools and 110,000 teachers at all levels.

In the 2026-2027 school year, Ho Chi Minh City plans to mobilize at least 70% of junior high school graduates to enter grade 10 of public high schools in the city, equivalent to about 150,000 students graduating from grade 9 in the 2025-2026 school year.

Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City continues to "finalize" 3 entrance exam subjects for the 10th grade in the next school year including: Literature, Math, English.

To prepare for the construction of admission plans for the first level and grade 10 in the 2026-2027 school year after the merger of Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau , it is expected that the grade 10 admission will combine both admission and entrance exam methods to suit reality.
