Ho Chi Minh City will enroll students for the 2026-2027 school year from January 1, 2026, in four phases, applying 100% online enrollment and considering students' current residence.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the city will enroll students at the beginning of the school year (grades 1, 6 and 10) from January 1, 2026 in 4 phases, specifically as follows:

Phase 1 from January 1, 2026 to February 28, 2026: Conduct student data statistics in 3 regions, evaluate the reception capacity of schools, develop detailed primary school enrollment targets...

Phase 2 from February to March 31: The Department of Education and Training will draft a plan for primary school enrollment and collect comments before officially issuing it in March.

Phase 3 from March to the end of May: Propagating and disseminating the primary school enrollment plan, receiving application documents, preparing facilities...

Phase 4 from June to the end of August 2025: Organize surveys to enroll 6th grade students, organize entrance exams for 10th grade students, and announce results.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training also said that although this is the first year of implementing primary school enrollment after the merger, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to promote digital transformation.

"Up to now, the educational geographic information system (GIS) has been completed; by 2026, 100% of localities in Ho Chi Minh City will enroll students at the primary level online. In particular, the GIS map utility will be exploited, the school network will be optimized to make more reasonable routing on the current scale of the city.

Information on "current residence" in the industry's database, which has been verified with the national population database, will be the main criteria for admission to the first grade. Wards, communes, and special zones will base on the Department's instructions to develop their own enrollment plans suitable to the actual conditions of the locality," a leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training informed.
