This afternoon (December 3), Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Jim Nickel and a high-ranking delegation from the Canadian Embassy and the Saskatchewan Representative Office visited and worked at Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry.

The event is one of the highlights in the 70th anniversary event series of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, and opens a new phase of cooperation between the university and Canadian partners, aiming at green-digital agriculture , sustainable development and enhancing climate change resilience for rural communities in Vietnam. At the meeting, Ambassador Jim Nickel also highly appreciated the international orientation and research capacity of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, and hoped that the cooperation would make practical contributions to sustainable agriculture and food security in Vietnam and the region.

Dr. Bui Ngoc Hung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, said that the cooperation between the two sides has been implemented for 30 years. In particular, the school leaders highly appreciated the fundamental contributions of the Canadian International Development Research Center (IDRC) - one of the first international partners to help the school build research capacity and implement sustainable development models.

In the context of complex climate change, especially in the Central provinces such as Khanh Hoa and Dak Lak (formerly Phu Yen ), which are heavily affected by floods and natural disasters, Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry hopes to receive support from Canada in a number of areas. Specifically, research and implementation of disaster response models - post-flood recovery for vulnerable communities; AI development and digital transformation in agriculture, promoting smart production systems; Extensive cooperation in the Net Zero program of Vietnam's agricultural sector; Building sustainable livelihood models for suburban and disadvantaged areas...

The leaders of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry also asked the Canadian Ambassador to continue connecting with IDRC, Global Affairs Canada, universities and research institutes to expand cooperation programs that have great and sustainable impacts.

Notably, during the meeting, the Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam also spent time interacting with students from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry. Here, Ambassador Jim Nickel shared with students the opportunities to study and research in Canada, especially about global sustainable agricultural trends.
