Will skipping exams reduce academic pressure?

Supporting the cancellation of the exam, reader Tran Quan Dinh said that it is an expensive exam and puts a lot of pressure on students, teachers and parents. Meanwhile, reader with email address voki****@gmail.com wrote: "I support the cancellation of the 10th grade exam because I see that my children study and review too hard, and have no time to rest."

A reader with email ledu****@gmail.com said the purpose of 10th grade admission is to stream students to vocational training, a very humane idea because if they do not meet the standards to enter 10th grade, they can both study vocational training and general education. So after 3 years, a vocational diploma will be issued.

But this reader believes that reality does not happen like that, so he supports eliminating the 10th grade entrance exam and instead selecting students to enter high school.

Meanwhile, a reader signed by DUC stated that the only solution is to universalize high school. Specifically, anyone with average academic performance and the need to attend high school can study in a public high school at a reasonable cost. "This not only reduces the pressure of exams but is also a matter of lifelong learning," the reader wrote.

Reader Dung said it's okay to skip exams, as long as we ensure good teaching quality conditions are equal in all schools.

Reader Thế Anh said that the Ministry or Department of Education and Training should consult. If the majority of parents and students want to skip the 10th grade exam, then they should skip it to reduce hardship for both the children and their parents.

However, reader Nguyen Anh Dan said that parents' opinions are not always correct. This reader said that if asked to skip the 10th grade entrance exam or the high school graduation exam, parents would agree because "everyone feels sorry for their precious children".

Additionally, this reader stated that in developed countries, exams are many times more difficult than in ours, thanks to which they can recruit many talented people.

Cannot "equalize" for admission consideration

Reader Nga was quite stressed when she affirmed that it was impossible to skip the 10th grade entrance exam because "if you study, you will take the exam, if you don't take the exam, you won't study hard." According to this reader, it is necessary to select good students who study at good schools to become talents for the country, and those who can't study should go to vocational school or a suitable school.

In addition, this reader said that Singapore requires a primary school final exam and it is the most important exam for students. And in 2025, Singapore will be the world leader in the global talent competitiveness index because of its extremely strict educational environment.

Meanwhile, reader SaylalaVN believes that like in Ho Chi Minh City, eliminating the 10th grade entrance exam for admission is completely unfeasible, at least in the next 5-10 years. Due to the large number of students, small classes, and different quality of high schools... shouting slogans will have no effect at all!

Seems like we are doing the opposite?

Reader Chanh Trung thinks that we are popularizing university education because we have opened too many universities while tightening the high school level because some places can only admit about 70% of the total number of 10th grade students taking the exam due to lack of schools.

While it is necessary to tighten the input quality to filter students with the ability to study at university, it is not done. This causes a huge waste of resources and social efforts.

"It is necessary to cut down on redundant universities and convert their functions into high schools. When there are enough high schools, the problem of transferring to high school will no longer be a pressure," this reader wrote.
