On the afternoon of December 3, in Hanoi, the Vietnam National Industry and Energy Group (VINATEX) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) organized a conference to launch the STEM Innovation Petrovietnam program.
The conference was organized in person and online with the Department of Education and Training of 34 provinces and cities across the country and schools receiving STEM rooms.
Petrovietnam STEM Innovation Program aims to build 100 international standard STEM labs by 2025 in 34 provinces and cities across the country.

Speaking at the conference, Dr. Thai Van Tai - Director of the Department of General Education, Ministry of Education and Training emphasized the tasks and roles of the education sector in Resolution 71-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in education and training development and Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation of the Politburo.
In particular, the Ministry is assigned to expand the study blocks, majors and STEM education activities in schools. Meanwhile, university admission statistics show that the target for training human resources in the STEM field only meets about 40% of social needs. If we do not strengthen STEM education at the high school level, we will lack the source of students for university entrance.
Therefore, Dr. Thai Van Tai said, the Petrovietnam STEM Innovation program is an important part of the content, adding elements of electronics, robotics and some new technology fields.

For effective implementation, Dr. Thai Van Tai also emphasized the role of cooperation between businesses. If the two sides do not synchronize, the program will be difficult to develop and may create pressure, affecting the implementation of the 2018 General Education Program, so consensus and agreement on goals and methods are needed.
Mr. Tai also noted to the schools that the 100 STEM rooms of the program are the core model, the common property of the professional cluster and not belonging to a single school.
Therefore, these STEM rooms will serve many schools, have operating regulations according to the club or satellite center model, and training is not only for teachers of the school that hosts the room but must be for a wide range of STEM teachers.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Tran Quang Dung - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Vietnam National Energy Industry Group also agreed that 100 STEM rooms are the "nuclei" of the STEM ecosystem - a place to attract initiatives, spread the STEM spirit in the pedagogical community and in the region, creating a foundation for developing scientific and technological capacity for the young generation in accordance with the direction of the Party and State.
Mr. Dung affirmed that the STEM Innovation program is not a movement but a specific commitment of responsibility of the group's employees; at the same time, the program implemented in 34 provinces/cities must ensure "One model - One quality", regardless of region, with the completion date of December 31, 2025.
For beneficiary schools, Mr. Dung suggested that school Boards of Directors and teachers proactively use STEM rooms effectively, monitor investment according to the plan appendix, especially not "close" STEM rooms but open them for other schools in the cluster to exploit together, in the spirit of "nuclear classrooms".
“With careful preparation, synchronous resources and determination from all parties, we believe that 100 STEM classrooms will create a strong ripple effect; and in the near future, this model can be replicated in hundreds of classrooms, contributing to improving the quality of STEM education nationwide,” Mr. Dung emphasized.

According to the plan, by the end of 2025, the program will deploy 3 STEM classrooms according to international standards in each province/city, including 2 for high schools and 1 for middle schools, connecting between localities and internationally, first with the education and training system of Singapore.
As of December 2, 100 rooms have been surveyed to develop implementation plans; 14 rooms have completed and handed over to the school; 28 rooms are undergoing installation; 58 rooms are implementing the final step in the process of selecting a supplier with an expected implementation time according to schedule.
All STEM rooms in the STEM Innovation program will be handed over to schools by December 31, 2025.
