A parent said that on December 4, the Vietnam Singapore International School (West Nha Trang Ward) will welcome students from all three levels (primary, middle, and high school) back to class. The school has been temporarily closed for more than a week because of the historic flood that caused water to overflow into the school grounds, disrupting teaching and learning activities.
However, when surveying the classroom before the students returned to school, this parent discovered a “mountain of trash” on 19/5 Street, next to the school. They were concerned that the accumulation of trash would pollute the environment and affect the health and learning of the students.

“The accumulation of garbage after the historic flood is what parents have shared with the environmental sector. However, choosing an area near the school as a collection point is very difficult to accept. We have made a request to the school, but the principal said that this is an area outside the school's boundaries, so they can only report it to the ward,” said the parent.
According to Dan Tri reporter on December 3, at the end of 19/5 Street, near the Vietnam Singapore International School, a large amount of garbage appeared, stretching for dozens of meters. This area smells bad and has many flies and mosquitoes.

In fact, this is a garbage transfer point. Many 3.5-ton trucks continuously carry garbage from residential areas to the end of 19/5 Street, then bulldozers collect the garbage into large piles before transferring it to 20-ton trucks to take it to the designated disposal site.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh, Principal of Vietnam Singapore International School, said that she has received feedback from parents and made a recommendation to the People's Committee of Tay Nha Trang Ward to promptly handle the garbage collection point.
She said the dump was located outside the school grounds, making it difficult for the school to intervene. For the work within the school, the unit hired a cleaning force and mobilized staff to clean continuously to ensure a safe learning environment.

She said the amount of garbage has now decreased to about 1/10 compared to previous days and Nha Trang Urban Environment Company continues to focus on solving the problem.
Mr. Nguyen Le Hoang, Head of Planning Department of Nha Trang Urban Environment Company, said that after the historic flood, the amount of garbage in Nha Trang increased dramatically. The company mobilized maximum human resources, vehicles and coordinated with Ho Chi Minh City Environment Company to clean up day and night.
Regarding the transfer point on May 19th Street, Mr. Hoang said that this location was selected by Tay Nha Trang Ward. This is a transfer point for 3.5-ton trucks to bring garbage from residential areas, then 20-ton garbage trucks will collect and transport it to the treatment site.

"Large vehicles cannot enter residential areas because they easily cause traffic jams, so they are forced to transit through this point," he said.
In response to parents’ concerns, Mr. Hoang affirmed that he would make every effort to completely handle the garbage dump on 19/5 Street by December 5. “If there is still garbage, we will find another location and not bring it here anymore,” Mr. Hoang said.
