Implementing the Gender Equality Education and Climate Change project in Ca Mau

GD&TĐ - Up to now, 100% of primary schools in Ca Mau (old) have received support from Room to Read for the project of building friendly libraries.

On December 3, Room to Read Vietnam coordinated with the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau province to organize a conference to deploy the Gender Equality Education and Climate Change Project 2025.

Attending the conference were Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Thuy, Deputy Director of the Gender Equality Education Program in Southeast Asia; Mr. Truong Canh Linh, Operations Director of Room to Read Vietnam, and leaders of the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau and Vinh Long provinces.

Room to Read is a non- governmental organization, established in 2000 and started operating in Vietnam since 2001. This organization has been accompanying the Education and Training sector in many provinces and cities across the country, including Ca Mau.

Accordingly, the Ca Mau Department of Education and Training has been supported and accompanied by Room to Read since 2018 with the project of building friendly libraries for primary schools.

By 2024, 100% of primary schools in Ca Mau province (old) have completed the conversion of traditional libraries to the Friendly Library model. After 6 years of implementation, the activities of the Friendly Library have brought about many practical results, helping students form the habit of reading books and promoting the reading culture in the locality.

Up to now, Ca Mau has received the School Psychology Counseling Support Program and Basic Skills Education to achieve the qualities and capacities specified in the 2018 General Education Program, for junior high school and high school levels.

Recently, the Gender Equality and Climate Change Education Project was approved by the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, in Decision 01117/QD-UBND. The project will focus on a number of key tasks, such as: Developing and testing a set of integrated documents on Gender Equality and Climate Change suitable for the reality in Ca Mau; providing intensive training for core staff, improving capacity to develop integrated lectures and apply active teaching methods; organizing pilot teaching at 10 secondary/high schools in the province; establishing monitoring, evaluation and adjustment tools, as a basis for replication throughout the province by 2027.

After piloting the project, it will continue to be deployed and replicated in at least 20 schools, moving towards widespread application of the documents and transferring them to localities for sustainable operation.
