The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has just reported on the practical implementation of the strategy for developing vocational education associated with the characteristics of socio-economic development and the work of arranging the network of vocational education and continuing education facilities in Ho Chi Minh City for the period 2021 - 2025 and orientation for the period 2026 - 2030.
In particular, many notable information were also presented in the workshop to assess the implementation of vocational education and continuing education contents in the period of 2021 - 2025, orientation for the period of 2026 - 2030 organized by the Ministry of Education and Training .
According to the report of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, in the context of administrative boundary arrangement and consolidation, the new Ho Chi Minh City now has a large, diverse vocational education system with much development potential.
In Ho Chi Minh City, there are currently 481 vocational education establishments including 77 colleges, 77 secondary schools, 29 vocational education - continuing education centers, 74 vocational education centers and 224 vocational education establishments.
In the public school system alone, Ho Chi Minh City has 19 public colleges, 19 public secondary schools and 41 continuing education centers, vocational education - continuing education centers.
Ms. Truong Hai Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that according to the plan to reorganize public vocational education and continuing education institutions, after the arrangement, the city will have 19 colleges and 2 secondary schools run by state-owned enterprises (autonomous units of group 1), and 37 vocational high schools.
The plan is being submitted to the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for comments.
Also according to the leader of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the work of arranging the network of public service units, including vocational education and continuing education institutions, is carried out in the direction of researching and building a mechanism for decentralization, ranking, merging and consolidating vocational education institutions.
The network after the arrangement must be open, flexible, modern, accessible, diverse in types and forms of organization, and must be suitable in terms of industry structure and level structure.
In addition, focusing on investment and upgrading schools after reorganization is one of the conditions to achieve the set goals by 2045, especially the goal of building high-quality schools and key professions with outstanding competitiveness in the ASEAN region and internationally.
1.5 million people study at colleges, intermediate schools, vocational schools... in 5 years
During the 2021 - 2025 period, vocational training institutions in Ho Chi Minh City enrolled and trained more than 1.5 million students at all levels.
Every year, the number of graduates from vocational education levels entering the labor market has contributed to gradually increasing the rate of trained workers in Ho Chi Minh City, reaching about 88.1% by early 2025.
In Ho Chi Minh City, there are currently 100 training programs at vocational education institutions that have been quality-accredited, of which 4 training programs have been evaluated and recognized by the ABET accreditation agency (USA) as meeting standards.
