Update the latest news about floods on the Red River in Hanoi
Regarding the flood situation on the Red River in Hanoi, speaking with Dan Viet at 11:00 a.m. on September 11, Mr. Mai Van Khiem, Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said that from last night to this morning, the flood on the Red River continued to increase. At 10:00 a.m. this morning, the water level on the Red River in Hanoi rose to 11.02 m, 0.48 m lower than alarm level 3.
"This is considered a special flood, the first time in a long time. The flood level in Hanoi above 11m happened 20 years ago, since 2004," said Mr. Khiem.
With such a flood situation, in the coming hours, the water level of the Red River in Hanoi will continue to increase but slowly, while the water level in the upstream will change slowly. With such a flood level of the Red River in Hanoi, the downstream areas of the rivers will reach alert level 3.
Due to the rapid rise in the Red River, the dike areas of Tay Ho, Ba Dinh, Hoan Kiem, Long Bien districts,... will be flooded.
Warning about flooding in Hanoi due to the flood in the Red River in Hanoi continuing to rise, Mr. Vo Van Hoa, Director of the Hydrometeorological Station of the Northern Delta and Midlands, General Department of Hydrometeorology, said that this is a rare flood. Up to now, all rivers such as the Red River, Thai Binh River, Thao River, and Lo River have many measuring points above alert level 3, and the measuring point on the Thao River has even exceeded its historical value.
"Because the water level on the rivers is still high, the risk of flooding will still occur in the next few days. This is very similar to the floods in 2006 and 2008 that caused prolonged flooding," Mr. Hoa warned.
Regarding Hanoi, Mr. Hoa said that Hanoi will experience flooding along major rivers such as the Red River, Da River, Duong River, and Day River. In the next 6 hours, the water level of major rivers will increase, reaching about 20cm below alert level 3 and then leveling off.
"Notably, floods on tributaries such as the Bui River, the Tich River, and the Ca Lo River are at alert level 3, so there is a risk of widespread flooding. Due to the rapid rise in the Red River, the dike areas of Tay Ho, Ba Dinh, Hoan Kiem, Long Bien districts, etc. will be flooded. The districts of My Duc, Ung Hoa, Quoc Oai, Chuong My, Dong Anh, Soc Son, etc. will be affected by small river systems, causing localized flooding," said Mr. Hoa.
Meanwhile, Mr. Vu Duc Long, Director of the Department of Hydrometeorological Forecasting Management, General Department of Hydrometeorology, said that there is currently much information worrying about flooding in the inner city.
"This information is incorrect. Even if the water level rises, flooding will only occur in areas outside the dike such as Phuc Tan, Phuc Xa, Bach Dang, and will not be able to reach the inner city," said Mr. Long.
