Netizens mentioned Hoài Linh and Thủy Tiên when Phạm Thoại's case was criticized.
In recent days, social media has been abuzz with the news that Pham Thoai allegedly leaked bank statements showing over 16 billion VND in charitable donations intended for a child named Bap to treat leukemia.
Pham Thoai's livestream attracted hundreds of thousands of viewers, featuring Ms. Hoa (Bap's mother) and other related individuals.
Later, this TikToker published all the bank statements, income and expenses, and payment receipts from the time Ms. Hoa took her child for treatment.
Pham Thoai affirmed that all the money donated by benefactors to his account was used to pay for Bap's medical treatment, "not a single penny was used for any other purpose."
The incident continues to be a hot topic on social media, as netizens continue to question the three personal accounts that Ms. Hoa used to receive donations.
In the posts, viewers also mentioned Hoài Linh, Thủy Tiên, and many other artists who have been involved in controversies related to charity.
Back in 2021, the incident involving artist Hoai Linh's delay in disbursing 14 billion VND in charitable funds caused public outrage. This incident seriously affected Hoai Linh's career afterward.
Meanwhile, Thuy Tien was reminded by the audience of past incidents, from the time the singer took a large sum of money to distribute to flood victims without a professional disbursement process, which had previously displeased the audience.
According to expert Le Ngoc Son, charitable donations should typically be channeled through reputable charitable funds with detailed, specific, and clear disbursement plans. Soliciting donations through personal accounts is highly likely to cause controversy.
Despite having received statements and conclusions from the authorities, Thuy Tien is still frequently harassed by offensive comments.
The singer previously asserted that the Ministry of Public Security 's investigation concluded she "did not misappropriate charitable funds donated by the public to help people in Central Vietnam affected by natural disasters and floods in 2020," and asked the audience to stop insulting her. However, the audience continued to bring up the issue, arguing that it's unacceptable to raise money and then use it for charity based on personal feelings.
Media expert Nguyen Ngoc Long shared his opinion on the controversy surrounding Pham Thoai: "You are only right when people believe you are right. If suspicion has already arisen, you are always wrong. There are many cautionary examples. Even if all the evidence is presented and the police conclude, trust is something that can never be regained with meaningless documents."
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Long argued that Pham Thoai had not been attentive enough or fully informed about the information from Ms. Hoa, "making things more complicated and leading to more misinformation."
Charity is a commendable activity, but it is never simple or easy. Individuals and organizations that receive donations and spend money to help people need to have strict and systematic financial control, and operate legally.
If you only rely on enthusiasm and the simplistic idea that delivering the donation in person is enough, it will be a huge risk for both the person making the appeal and the donors.
