Recent signals suggest that the future Mazda3 sedan could be replaced by an electric version called the Mazda3e, made in China.

The information that the Mazda3 may be "killed" to make way for the Mazda3e is reinforced by the registration of copyrights for the "Mazda3e" brand in Australia, the UK and Europe. The new model is said to share the chassis with the Deepal L06 electric sedan that has just been launched in the Chinese market. This isn't the first time Mazda has partnered with Deepal: in some markets like Europe and Australia, the Mazda6 has also been replaced by an electrified version called the Mazda6e – essentially a Deepal EZ-6 with a Mazda badge.
The Mazda3e is expected to have two engine options. The extended-range hybrid (EREV) version uses a 1.5L petrol engine combined with a 28.4 kWh battery and a 255 horsepower electric motor, providing a pure electric range of about 180 km according to WLTP standards. Meanwhile, the pure electric Mazda3e version has a 268 horsepower electric motor, rear-wheel drive, with two battery options of 56 kWh and 69 kWh - allowing the car to travel up to 670 km per charge.
The Mazda3e's interior will be high-tech, similar to Mazda's latest electric SUVs. It can be equipped with an augmented reality head-up display up to 50 inches in size, a 3nm car processor chip, a level 2+ driver assistance system with a standard LiDAR sensor. The overall size has also been significantly increased: length is about 4,830 mm - approaching the D-class sedan segment, helping to significantly improve rear seat space, which is an inherent weakness of the current Mazda3. The Mazda3e's design will likely retain the signature Kodo language, but the glasshouse and bodywork will be shared with the Deepal L06. It could feature dual-tier headlights, an active grille, hidden door handles, a coupe-style roofline, and full-width LED taillights. A LiDAR sensor will be positioned just above the windshield for advanced safety features.
Mazda has not yet confirmed whether the current-generation Mazda3 will be continued, but with the company focusing its resources on electric vehicles and SUVs, the possibility of the Mazda3e – a hybrid between the Mazda and Deepal – becoming an official successor is entirely possible.
