Coming to Ban Hon (Khun Ha commune), we witnessed rows of green cabbage, cauliflower... growing well, stretching across the fields that farmers previously left empty after planting one rice crop a year.

From early morning, people went to the fields to fertilize and water the crops. Under the care of the people, the vegetable beds grew evenly, covering the entire field. During the planting process, the farmers were guided by technical staff from soil preparation, seed selection, bed making, organic fertilizer application, to watering to maintain moisture and prevent pests. Thanks to that, the vegetables grew well, developed evenly, promising high yields.

Growing vegetables in multiple crops not only helps people make the most of agricultural land but also creates more jobs and increases income during the off-season. This is the result of a change in production thinking, shifting from monoculture of rice to intercropping and cropping to improve economic efficiency on the same area.

Not only did they plant first for the villagers to learn from, they also actively encouraged and guided other households to participate; thanks to that, the movement of growing vegetables to increase the crop is spreading widely.

It is known that this year is the first year that Khun Ha commune has implemented a pilot model of growing vegetables in two villages, Ban Hon and Hoa Di Ho, with a total area of ​​over 5,000 square meters with vegetables such as kohlrabi, cabbage, etc. Households participating in the model actively take care of, fertilize, and prevent pests and diseases according to technical procedures. Thanks to that, the vegetables are growing and developing well, promising to bring stable income to the people. The model of growing vegetables in addition to the crop has created seasonal jobs for many rural workers, especially women and the elderly.

From the abandoned fields after the rice crop, the model of growing vegetables in multiple crops has now initially affirmed the right direction in transforming the crop structure, making the most of the land potential.
