On November 1, Thu Dau Mot University (HCMC) announced that it had notified students about refunding tuition fees for undergraduate training in the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 academic years.
Regarding the payment method, the school said that for students currently studying, the refunded tuition fee will be deducted from the tuition fee for the 2025-2026 school year. For students who have graduated, dropped out of school, or temporarily stopped studying, the school will refund the student after the student has completed all tuition debt (if any) and provided full information about the student's account number and transaction bank name.
To receive the refund, students must provide information about the school including: Citizen ID, bank name, account number (a valid account number is the student's personal account number that is still in use, not accepting borrowed account numbers from others). The school also notes that the deadline for providing information is November 30, 2025. After the deadline, if students do not update their information according to the instructions or provide incorrect information, they will not be refunded and the above amount will be paid to the state budget according to regulations.
The school will check bank account information and pay students before December 15, 2025.

Previously, Tien Phong newspaper reported that the State Audit announced its conclusion after conducting an audit at this school from 2015 to 2021. Accordingly, the State Audit determined that Thu Dau Mot University illegally collected more than VND 37 billion from students in the two school years 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. After the State Audit announced its decision, Thu Dau Mot University transferred the entire amount to the budget.
Explaining further why the previously collected tuition fees were now refunded, the school leader said that the money collected from students at that time was not yet autonomous, and the budget was still subsidized. The transition period from a state-funded unit ensuring regular expenditures to financial autonomy resulted in a discrepancy. When the audit conclusion was available, the school returned the budget and is now refunding it to the students.
Previously, in the first phase, the school completed the procedures and identified the list of more than 10,000 students, and transferred money into students' accounts with an amount of more than 21 billion VND.
A representative of Thu Dau Mot University said that refunding tuition fees to students takes a lot of time because it requires checking and comparing student lists and account numbers. In addition, the school needs time to carry out procedures and refund processes in accordance with State regulations.
