Ms. Thanh is the character in the article “The heartbreaking situation of Ms. Thanh and her children” published in the “Addresses for help” column of Quang Tri newspaper on May 17, 2025, calling on the community to join hands to help. At the age of 80, she should be resting and enjoying time with her children and grandchildren, but the harsh challenges that have come one after another have made her shoulders even thinner due to the burden of making a living.

She is currently collecting scrap metal to earn more money to cover her family's living expenses, take care of her 50-year-old son who unfortunately has a serious illness, and her school-age grandchildren. Through the connection of the Provincial Red Cross Society and through an article published in Quang Tri Newspaper, Ms. Thanh was awarded 30 million VND by Thien Tam Fund - Vingroup; DOJI Gold and Gemstone Group awarded 30 million VND. This amount of money helps to share some of the difficulties, encouraging Ms. Thanh and her children to continue to make efforts to overcome the disease and rise up in life.

Moved by the gifts from the charitable organizations, Ms. Thanh confided: “My family’s circumstances are difficult, previously we relied on the small income from my son’s watch repair business. In recent years, my son was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer, and the whole family almost collapsed. Even though I am constantly sick, I have to try to collect and collect scrap metal to exchange for daily meals. Today, receiving the gifts from the charitable organizations, my mother and I are really happy. This will be the motivation for my whole family to try harder every day.”

Chairwoman of the Provincial Red Cross Society Mai Thi Kim Nhung said: “In recent times, the associations at all levels have always made efforts to mobilize and connect in many ways to support and help families in difficult circumstances. With the goal of “leaving no one behind”, the Provincial Red Cross Society hopes that Ms. Thanh’s family in particular and other disadvantaged families in the province in general will continue to receive the attention and support of charitable organizations and individuals.”
