Gyokeres is said to be ready to join MU. |
The latest financial report shows that the total operating costs of the "Red Devils" decreased sharply by 41.6 million pounds, to only 162.1 million pounds in the most recent quarter. This is the first positive signal since the British billionaire started the reform at Old Trafford.
Notably, the recovery took place in the context of MU still bearing a huge debt of up to 1.2 billion pounds, largely a legacy left over from the Glazer dynasty. However, tightening the budget helped the Manchester team return to the transfer market strongly.
According to British media, MU is likely to complete the Gyokeres deal this summer. The Swedish striker had an explosive season, scoring 54 goals in just 52 games for Sporting Lisbon. Although his current contract has a release clause of up to 85 million pounds, the owner club is willing to negotiate at a price of around 60 million pounds.
Arsenal are also interested in the former Coventry striker, but they are distracted by another target, RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. Meanwhile, with links from his time at Sporting, coach Ruben Amorim is said to be keen on reuniting with his former student at Old Trafford.
Gyokeres is said to be keen on joining the Red Devils. MU have previously agreed a £62.5m deal to bring striker Matheus Cunha from Wolves to Old Trafford. They are also in talks with Brentford over a £55m deal for Bryan Mbeumo.
However, to balance the finances, coach Amorim will likely have to push some first-team players away. The list of players to be sold includes names such as Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Casemiro.
