Mr. Nong Van Nghinh's family is tending to their pine forest in preparation for selective harvesting. |
The clearest example is the story of Mr. Nong Van Nghinh's family, a pioneering forest-planting household in the village. Through the PAM 5322 Project, Program 661, 147, etc., he boldly registered to plant 4 hectares of pine forest.
Mr. Nong Van Nghinh shared: "At that time, planting forests was not a simple matter, because not many people believed in the economic value of forests. With the support of the State in providing seedlings, my family persevered and focused on investing. To date, the forest area has been harvested and replanted for the second time. Thanks to the forest, the family's economy is stable and the income is quite good."
Starting with a few pioneering households, the reforestation movement spread. Currently, My Vy village has over 300 hectares of forest land, most of which has been reforested with acacia, pine, cinnamon, and other tree species suitable to the local climate and soil conditions. Some households have nearly 1 hectare, while others have up to ten hectares. Each harvesting cycle brings in tens to hundreds of millions of dong, creating a more stable and sustainable economic resource compared to traditional agricultural production.

Mr. Ly Van Thang, from My Vy village, Thuong Minh commune, is busy clearing undergrowth in preparation for the new reforestation season. |
Mr. Ly Van Thang said: "Previously, we relied solely on rice and corn, and the harvests were inconsistent. Thanks to the forest, the people have capital to do business, build houses, and buy motorbikes. The biggest benefit is that we no longer have to worry about food shortages like before. My family has built a solid house worth several hundred million dong."
My Vy's success stems not only from the efforts of the people but also from the decisive involvement of the Thuong Minh commune government. The commune clearly identified the development of production forests as a direction that would both provide long-term livelihoods and contribute to protecting the ecological environment. Training courses on forest planting and care techniques, guidance on seed selection, and awareness campaigns on forest fire prevention and control were continuously implemented.
According to Mr. Ly Van Ba, Head of My Vy village: The effectiveness of the forest economy is very evident. Currently, 98% of the houses in the village have been reinforced or semi-reinforced; 100% of households have motorbikes, refrigerators, and modern household appliances. The road into the village has been paved, facilitating trade. From a poor village, My Vy has now become a shining example in the commune.

Forests not only increase income but also create sustainable environmental value: they cover the land, reduce erosion, retain water in streams, and improve the microclimate. More importantly, people's production mindset has changed; they know how to invest long-term, harvest in cycles, and replant using proper techniques.
Forest planting has become a sustainable economic development direction for My Vy village, improving the lives of individual households while contributing to economic restructuring and promoting local development.
