Improve knowledge and skills of first aid

Red Cross volunteers practice first aid for traffic accidents.

In March 2025 in Sam Son City, the Provincial Red Cross Association organized a drill on safety skills, drowning rescue, and SCC for officials, members, volunteers and people. At the drill, everyone participated in real situations, witnessed and observed the SCC process for each specific case such as: SCC for drowning victims, traffic accidents, safe transportation with simulated situations of drowning victims, traffic accidents with various injuries to the head, arms, legs, etc.

As a member participating in the drowning rescue and SCC drill for victims, Mr. Luong Viet Ngoc, a member of the Sam Son Sea Rescue Team and a volunteer of the Red Cross, said: “I have been a member of the rescue team for nearly 30 years. Every year, I participate in SCC training courses to practice my skills and improve my knowledge. I find this a meaningful job, helping victims limit life-threatening dangers.”

Mr. Cao Van Dong in Sam Son City, a volunteer of the Red Cross, said: “I have participated in SCC work at sea and on the road for 30 years. My main task is to participate in rescuing people drowning at sea and SCC for people in traffic accidents. When there is a risky situation, my members and I quickly approach the victim, assess the level of injury, the mechanism of injury, then proceed to treat the victim's injuries, prioritizing the treatment of serious injuries to reduce the danger to the health of the victim and call an ambulance, take the victim to the nearest medical facility for emergency treatment."

Not only organizing drills, every year the Provincial Red Cross Association regularly organizes training sessions on knowledge and skills of SCC for Red Cross officials, members, and volunteers; coordinates with schools and localities to organize propaganda sessions and training sessions on SCC skills for students and people. Through training sessions, people gain basic knowledge about SCC, types of injuries, and how to identify risks. In particular, people practice through hypothetical situations, thereby being able to understand and self-responsibly SCC for themselves and those around them when traffic accidents or work accidents occur, as well as knowing how to prevent accidents and safely transport victims to medical facilities.

In particular, to make the SCC work more effective, the Provincial Red Cross Association has established and expanded SCC checkpoints for traffic accidents at key locations and traffic "black spots" on the roads to promptly support victims. Volunteers participating in the SCC are trained in knowledge and skills, equipped with signs with information of volunteers, stretchers, medical equipment and tools, etc. Thanks to that, many victims have been promptly SCC. From 2024 to present, through the organization of the Red Cross Association, 5,600 people and students have been SCC and transferred to other hospitals, contributing to protecting people's health.

Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Association Nguyen Quoc Thanh said: SCC is a key task of the Red Cross movement. Every year, the Provincial Red Cross Association has proactively developed a plan to organize initial SCC activities. At the same time, it has promoted propaganda about the role of initial SCC in protecting the health and lives of individuals and the community to all classes of people. Continuing to carry out its humanitarian "mission", the Provincial Red Cross Association will replicate SCC models and activities in the community. In particular, it focuses on training knowledge and skills for volunteers and people. Thereby, improving SCC knowledge, skills, propaganda skills as well as the spirit of readiness to save lives for volunteers and people in the community.
