Improve legal knowledge for village elders and prestigious people

This is a necessary foundation for prestigious people to propagate and mobilize people of all walks of life to exemplaryly comply with the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws and policies.

Duc Co border district currently has 43 prestigious people among ethnic minorities. The whole district has 3 main religions operating: Southern Vietnam Protestantism, Catholicism, Buddhism with over 12,000 followers. In order to foster knowledge of law, ethnic and religious policies and mediation skills, the district's Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs recently organized 2 professional training courses for prestigious people.

The training content revolves around the Party's viewpoints, policies and laws of the State on ethnicity and ethnic policies; functions and tasks of prestigious people and skills in propaganda and mass mobilization.

Mr. Truong Van Do - Head of the Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs of Duc Co district - said: Training courses help prestigious people improve their skills and knowledge, thereby promoting their role in guiding the community to implement the Party's policies and the State's laws. Especially in the era of digital technology development, this activity also helps them supplement and update information to more effectively carry out propaganda and mobilize people at the grassroots level.

Regularly participating in training courses organized by the district, village elder Ro Lan Vong (Ngo Le village, Ia Krel commune, Duc Co district) has accumulated more knowledge and skills in propagating and mobilizing people to create positive changes in their thinking, working methods and implementing the policies of the Party and the State. In particular, Elder Vong always stays close to the community; listens to the thoughts and aspirations of the people and promptly reports problems arising in the residential area to the local Party Committee and government.

“To get people to listen, first of all, we have to speak in a way that convinces them. And to do that, we have to understand the law. Therefore, we regularly grasp new information about the ethnic policies of the Party and the State to propagate, thereby demonstrating the role and responsibility of the village elder, a prestigious person in the community,” said Mr. Vong.

Regarding the building of a team of prestigious people in Kong Chro district, Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee Dinh Van Suy said: The district has a proportion of ethnic minorities accounting for more than 75%. The whole district has 64 prestigious people among ethnic minorities. In recent years, the team of prestigious people has been an "extended arm" to help the locality in propaganda work, mobilizing people to well implement the Party's policies and the State's laws and policies.

They also play an important role in participating in activities to build the Party, government, Fatherland Front and grassroots organizations; maintain security and order; mobilize ethnic minorities to eliminate bad customs, participate in preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups.

“In order for the team of prestigious people to meet the requirements and tasks of work in the new situation, the district has issued 1,150 handbooks on propaganda skills for prestigious people in ethnic minority and mountainous areas. At the same time, the district regularly organizes knowledge training and provides information to dozens of prestigious people,” added Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee Kong Chro.

Village elder Dinh Van Chiem - a prestigious person of Von village (Yang Nam commune, Kong Chro district) shared: "Thanks to participating in training courses, listening to and reading propaganda handbooks, I have gained more knowledge to propagate and mobilize people to live and work according to the Constitution and laws, and fight against crime. From 2024 to now, I have successfully participated in mediating 3 cases of conflicts and disputes arising in the community".

From 2024 to present, the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions has carried out many activities such as: distributing nearly 150,000 copies of Gia Lai newspaper, nearly 300,000 copies of Ethnic Minorities and Development newspaper; organizing 7 training courses for 1,200 prestigious people. These efforts have contributed to providing information and improving knowledge for the team of village elders and prestigious people, helping them to perform well the role of a bridge between the Party Committee, the government and the people.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Truong Trung Tuyen - Deputy Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions - said: The whole province has 967 village elders and prestigious people. In recent years, the province has focused on providing information to this group so that they can propagate and mobilize ethnic minorities to implement the Party's guidelines, policies and laws of the State, especially the implementation of the National Target Program on socio -economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021-2030. Improving legal knowledge for the group of village elders and prestigious people plays an important role in socio-economic development and ensuring security and order in the locality.
