"We categorically condemn the excessive use of military force when conducting actions in anti-drug operations. In our opinion, such actions violate both domestic US legislation... and norms of international law," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a commentary on the ministry's website.

A US operation in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific targeting what Washington calls "illegal drug trafficking" has targeted at least 14 vessels and left 61 people dead.
In recent months, the US has also significantly increased its military presence in the Caribbean, with fighter jets, warships and thousands of troops.
In her comments, Ms Zakharova said that Russia "confirms our unwavering support for the Venezuelan leadership in defending its national sovereignty".
Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro signed a strategic partnership agreement in Moscow in May.
Venezuelan President Maduro has repeatedly accused the US of trying to overthrow his government. President Trump has also confirmed that the US has deployed CIA agents in Venezuela.
