According to Ms. Moskalkova, the evacuees have been taken to nearly 1,000 temporary shelters across Russia.
"Currently, there are 960 temporary accommodation centers in 65 regions of Russia, housing 30,415 people, including 7,670 children," Ms. Moskalkova emphasized.
Since Moscow launched its special military operation in February 2022, Ukraine has retaliated with numerous shelling and attacks on Russian border regions.
In August 2024, Ukrainian forces launched an offensive in the Kursk region, seizing control of dozens of settlements and holding most of those positions ever since.
Ms. Moskalkova said she had received more than 1,000 letters of appeal from Russian citizens in Kursk who are still missing or being held captive by Ukrainian forces.
However, Kyiv has not yet issued any official response.
Ms. Moskalkova has visited more than 2,000 Ukrainian prisoners of war being held in Russia, and revealed that similar visits to Russian prisoners of war have also been made by her counterpart in Kyiv.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced on October 13 that it had attacked Ukrainian forces near the Kursk border region in western Russia with glide bombs. The attack targeted "a fortified defensive position and a concentration of Ukrainian troops."
For more than two months, Moscow has been trying to push Ukrainian forces out of the area. As of early September, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared that Kyiv controlled more than 1,300 square kilometers in Kursk, including 100 settlements.
"Russian forces attempted to push back Ukrainian troops, but we held our designated positions," Zelensky emphasized.
