Nghe An implements project to support children in special circumstances and victims of human trafficking

On the morning of June 18, in Vinh city, a conference was held to deploy the project "Improving social services and support for children in special circumstances and victims affected by human trafficking in the period 2024 - 2026".

Attending the conference were Ms. Slye Ellen Maconachie - Co-Director of Blue Dragon International, Ms. Le Thi Hoai Chung - Member of the Provincial Party Executive Committee, Director of Nghe An Department of Health , along with representatives of relevant departments, branches, units and leaders of Ky Son, Tuong Duong, Con Cuong, Anh Son districts.

The project “Improving social services and support for children in special circumstances and victims of human trafficking in the period of 2024 - 2026” is sponsored by Blue Dragon International and implemented by the Nghe An Provincial Children's Fund with a total budget of 3.3 billion VND, which is a non-refundable aid source. Operating in the period of 2024 - 2026, the project focuses on mountainous areas such as Ky Son and Tuong Duong - where the poverty rate and risk of human trafficking are still high.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, a representative of the Provincial Children's Fund emphasized that the project's main goal is to enhance social assistance services for children in special circumstances, especially those affected by human trafficking, abuse or at risk of dropping out of school or early marriage. The project will implement many practical components such as emergency support, granting scholarships, improving school facilities, organizing communication to prevent human trafficking and strengthening the capacity of local staff and teachers. This is an important first step in the journey to protect Nghe An children from the risk of human trafficking and abuse, towards a safe living environment and sustainable development.

The representative of Nghe An Department of Health affirmed that they will direct the whole sector to actively coordinate in professional activities such as health check-ups, psychological counseling, and treatment support for children who are beneficiaries. The Department of Health will also accompany the Children's Protection Fund in the implementation and supervision process to ensure transparency, efficiency and compliance with the law.

At the conference, representatives of Blue Dragon International pledged to continue providing technical support and accompanying Nghe An in rescuing, protecting and helping children integrate into the community. Delegates from the provincial police and beneficiary localities also expressed their support and pledged to work closely together to ensure the safety of children and the community.

Objectives of the Project “Improving social services and support for children in special circumstances and victims affected by human trafficking in the period 2024 - 2026”:

1. Support and provide social services for children in special circumstances, child victims, children of victims and their families

+ 41 cases of child victims, children of victims (or suspected victims of human trafficking) have access to primary care/emergency support services.

+ 61 victims (or suspected victims), children of victims and family members were supported to stabilize their lives through monthly sponsorship support, health check-ups, vocational training, livelihood and housing repair.

+ 143 children in special circumstances in the community are supported with social security services (monthly sponsorship, school supplies, health check-ups, livelihood).

2. Supporteducation , health care, and protection for children in mountainous areas

+ 220 students with difficult circumstances and high risk of dropping out of school received scholarships.

+ 6 Student Clubs at 6 schools were established with 90 members and 2,340 children/students participating in school activities.

+ 4,800 children/students participated in communication activities on child protection knowledge, prevention of early marriage, etc. through organizing communication, extracurricular activities and implementing initiatives at school.

+ 100 students, teachers and staff working in child protection were enhanced their capacity and participated in topics on presentation skills, life skills, prevention of early marriage, etc.

+ 2,200 children participated in fun activities on holidays and Tet.

+ 1,017 children in special circumstances received gifts on holidays and Tet.

+ 360 children in special circumstances were supported with warm clothes packages.

+ 400 students and 100 teachers benefit from support for providing equipment/upgrading school facilities.
