On the afternoon of October 2, the flooding situation in the midland area and the communes along the Red River was quite serious. Rising water caused many houses to be submerged in floodwater. Some households in low-lying areas had to be urgently evacuated to safety. Many areas of land used for growing crops and fruit trees were flooded, causing considerable damage to farmers.
At the end of lane 76 An Duong, Mr. Nguyen Van Nghia (38 years old, Hong Ha ward) said that since the night of September 30, he had to use a motorboat to help people in deep water areas evacuate. He continuously posted information on groups to promptly grasp the situation, quickly approach and bring stranded people to safety.
Sitting on the porch in a small alley under Long Bien bridge, Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh (37 years old, Hong Ha ward), a small peach garden owner, looked out at her garden with a feeling of anxiety. Her family's peach garden was deeply submerged in floodwaters, many trees had begun to rot, and the risk of losing everything was very high. She had taken care of each tree all year, waiting for Tet to sell it to make money to cover expenses, but now seeing this scene was heartbreaking. Ms. Quynh just hoped the water would recede soon so she could go out and see which trees she could save, then try to water and wash them, hoping to save a few.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tan (76 years old, Hong Ha ward), living alone on the riverside, is still shocked when recalling the moment the floodwaters came on the evening of September 30. "The river water rose quickly, I only had time to run after the people to evacuate, all the furniture in the house had to be left behind. Now the house is flooded up to the roof, all the crops and livestock are considered lost. I hope the local government will soon have a solution and support so that we can quickly return to our daily lives," Mr. Tan choked up.
Not only affecting agricultural production, rising river water also causes difficulties in daily life. Many households with houses near the riverbank or living on floating vehicles must proactively move their assets and livestock to higher ground to ensure safety.
Previously, on September 1, the Hanoi City Civil Defense Command issued a flood warning on the Red River. Specifically, the water level of the Red River in the communes of Hong Van, Chuong Duong, Phu Xuyen, and Dai Xuyen was at alert level I.
By the late afternoon of September 2, the water level of rivers in the city, especially the Red River, was still high. To proactively ensure the safety of works and activities along the river, the City Civil Defense Command has issued a document requesting the People's Committees of wards and communes along the dike to continue to seriously and effectively implement the directions of the Central Government and the City in the work of preventing and responding to natural disasters, rain, floods, landslides and possible incidents. The People's Committees of wards and communes immediately notify organizations and individuals operating on rivers and along the river to proactively take measures to ensure safety and adjust activities accordingly; review and ensure the safety of works under construction, not allowing people to go to areas at risk of landslides, avoiding unfortunate damages...
